What a wonderful sight…all that remains of the tree service wood is about 2-2.5 cords of oak. Some good sized stuff - 18”-24” in diameter but nothing crazy big or knotty.

I still have quite a bit of the Goldilocks oak logs I got from the land clearing company.

That’s my plan once I work on the pile that’s left.

Among the big tree service logs was this stupid tree of heaven garbage. Some was rotten so that got cut longer and split bigger for my wood boiler. The solid stuff was cut to my normal 16” and split down normally as well. I stacked it on the pallets to get it out of the way and will either burn in my fireplace or sell as camp fire wood.

I usually mix it in with bundle wood and/or general cordage. I've heard it may smell unpleasant when burned.

Not a wood I go out of my way for unless easy and makes some decent splits. Not sure if I have any in stock either.

Maybe I will throw 20-30 pieces in my mixed cords as they go out but there’s no way I was just adding this to my regular piles and then loading it all up for one customer.

Here’s what I had the pile whittled down to just before he called me this morning. Told him I was going to reach out later in the week. He said he had this load of cherry, locust, and maple so I said, sure bring it! Ended up being that along with some birch as well. Don’t know where it’s going to go once cut and split but I still have until Labor Day to make firewood. Gotta keep busy!

Took this pic earlier in the week. It’s the splits left behind from the big mixed hardwoods. Way too much time and effort involved for this amount of splits but at least they are gone!

Yep, those big gnarly pieces do take time. Glad you got them done.

Latest oak pile is finished. 90 feet long. One picture from each end.
