Need a coil for my fs55r trimmer. I bought a coil awhile back but pretty sure it's the wrong one because trimmer still won't run and just backfires every now and then when trying to start it. I'd like a Stihl replacement coil. I do have my factory coil here somewhere but we've moved and most of that stuff is still in boxes and it'll take me a week and a day to find it. Does anyone know the factory coil part number?

Go to a stihl dealer with your serial number. They should be able to find what you need from that. Or take the unit with you for them to read the serial number.

Not yet...having trouble finding that exact part number. I find 1308 and it says it's for the fs55 but I want to research it and make sure. Already been through this once with a chinesium coil so I want the right one this time

I've still not had any luck finding the 1303a coil. Anyone steer me in a direction? I'm just not finding it anywhere and not sure if that 1308 is compatible

I’d just bite the bullet and go find a calibrated plug.

mid it’s not showing spark, save the hassle and have a dealer order it for you.

I’ve had many instances, the dealer will also confirm the part has been superseded several times.

We just moved 2 hours away and I have no idea where anything is out here. I'm still back and forth between the houses some so next time I'm back I'll check at the place there. Did more reading last night.
It sounds like that 1303a coil is no longer made but gets confusing after that. The 1308 coil works on some fs55's but not other depending on the year. Has to do with spark timing I guess. I *think* this trimmer is a 1989 which seems way older than it looks but I see that printed on the sticker. It was given to me years ago by a friend. I'm going to keep searching and I'll figure it out eventually.

That's generally what I do. I can almost always figure out what I need on the web but this one is being a challenge. Every time I find where someone is having this problem they solve it by eventually finding a used 1303 coil . There has to be another coil that works on pre-2001 fs55's.

The answer to that I fear, is finding a stihl dealer parts guy willing to take the time to research it for you.

I may have gotten lucky....found a brand new 1303 coil on eBay and ordered it. From a guy here in the states so don't *think* it will be a china coil. Say *think* because you can never be too sure. Gets here this weekend so I'll find out then.

Up and running...the stihl1308 coil did the trick. If anyone needs parts I highly recommend jowil240496 on eBay. Really worked with me to get this thing running and I'd like to repay the favor by maybe sending some business to him.
