The wording didn't sound right no matter how I put it. Just happy to have another unused 20" loop of LGX. I'm still turning my nose up at the Xcut chain, mainly due to price. Edit: Truck was 3 years old as of March. I'm positive it was transfered over from old blue and probably rode in it for 2-3 years. I do kinda have a thing where I have some 'backup' chains stashed around.
Got the bank project wrapped up (ran out of materials). Looking pretty good honestly. Had to use my barrier fence again today. No helpers. Bought me a new $20 pair of river shoes because I couldn't locate my others. They're ok. This little saw impressed me quite a bit. I like it. Just did a couple quick trim cuts with it. Them: you're out of 3" rollers. Me: no, I'm not. Also them: you can't use a paper plate to paint off of! Also me: Prettying it up a little. Hot.
Figured it would take me longer to get here but have been considering letting one of the reserve Makita units go. Would be nice to fund other things with the proceeds. Hmmm.
Ya gotta love a Friday Victory. Had a few quirks to get past, but she's hitting on em all now. Customer abandoned unit last year. Asked shop fellers about it after seeing it sit. "Have never heard anything back from them, unsure what's wrong you can have it if you want it." My total monetary investment stands at $17.xx. These were $1700 new 10 years ago. Only 4000 watts but a rock solid unit. 120/240 simultaneous output. Even has electric start. Gotta make or purchase some sort of wheel kit. It's portly at 200lbs dry. Low oil wanring sensor does not work (was causing hot start issues). Needle output meter on panel does not work. I'll be fine without either. My Friday has begun on a good note. Hope to ride it all weekend long.
Pair of fawns in neighbor's yard Friday evening. Spent a few hours Saturday & Sunday pulling trash off the trails. Had them all groomed nice once but several storms have left a lot of debris. The ground is nice and dry so other than dust, good working conditions for it. Decided to be lazy after the tractor yesterday and threw a pole in for a couple hours. Didn't get so much as a bite, but it didn't bother me any. Fishing is a great excuse to sit and relax by the river. Spotted this leatherback while I was chilling. Probably 16" or so front to back.
Got a new phone. Nothing exciting. 2 year old motorola that's still just 4G. Trying to transfer files now and it's a pain. For the longest time, Motorola had a built in app to swap your data onto a new phone. Found out they discontinued it. Now on the struggle bus of manually transferring files as all the suggested app replacements either do not transfer music. I love modern chainsaw tech. Communications tech not so much.
More work on the goat path this weekend. the clump of maples is almost within reach now. Going to let my little path get rained on hopefully this week to help it settle a bit. Finished up trying to cut some stairs into the little downslope. Not much surface soil to work with here. I think I can do something with it if I can get down and work uphill on it a little. Getting back to hauling more rocks up from the crick. Had been working around this Whoak as it was hung up last winter. It decided to break and fall to the ground, so I decided it was time to deal with it. Lower temps helped motivate. Pulled the tops up best I could from the bank they fell over. Pull till chain starts to make funny noises then back off pressure and cut. Had to brace my foot against a sapling to get this cutoff. 15-20 foot drop there. Thought the main trunk was ruinated. Turned out to just be branch punk spot though the entire tree has a little punk throughout. Decent log here. It's a longish drag down the crick. Made three turns. Yield
I recently got a new phone too. Crazy easy with the brand I have. Only birtch is, now when I want to post pics, I have to screen shot each one because the original is too large for the site. Frustrating. Nice haul of logs.
I don't even try to post full res images here...all SS. I think I finally got it fully cloned. Had to buy a male to male cord and tethered to old phone. Still carrying the old one for now because I have not had a chance to go through the new one to make sure everything got copied and is working well. I should be able to use this new one until the battery dies as it's double capacity memory of the one I have now. First one I ever had was a whopping 16 gig memory. Currently, Android system is using ~23 gigs of memory just to operate the phone? Funny thing is that I do not use the current one for anything that I didn't use the original for. So what's all that processing stuff doing anyways? Figured out some time ago that memory is the most crucial thing for these phones. It's kinda like HP for a chainsaw...yeah there's other 'features' but what you are really paying for is a level of horsepower > memory. I had not planned to get that oak yet since it was hung and out of the way. Needed to do some work on that trail while it's dry, so it had to be moved out of the way. Pushed it up onto some questionable HL and some previously diced red oak that was there already. So far, this year is the year of Whoak for me. Got the one above, another good stem to finish from a blowdown last year, and a fresh big blowdown this year. Other than those, got a little sugar maple waiting. Hoping to find some more stuff soon or I'll be picking on dead standing red maples this winter.
This scene has appeared in front of me hundreds if not thousands of times thus far. 501 to the rescue. Testing some high tec redneck material. (buddy brough to me leftover from a job site he was on) ~5lb blocks of cementcrete interwoven with fiber material. Not really meant for what I am using it for. I bet it'll work great. Comes on a roll like this. I have to cut it down so I am able to handle it. Also, after some 23 years running, I have defected. Toyota did it to themselves. They are no longer building a pickup that I am interested in.
I will keep my ‘03 going as long as possible. Zero desire for a car payment of any type right now. These 4.7’s are known to last many miles and I’ve been religious with maintenance. Are you using the cementcrete to stop erosion?
Indeed. Most of the frontage is armored and has been since I was a kid. Lots of concrete chunks from wherever we could scrounge them. This is the up river area of the bank where we never really gave it much love. Higher than normal and lasting higher waters mean the wakes have been beating on bank higher up and causing loss of soil. I have about 20 yards left to get at least somewhat covered. Project will bleed into 2025 summer, I'm sure. Hoping to keep a big Sycamore from falling into the river. Soil gets washed from roots and roots eventually die and rot off, leaving nothing to hold the soil. I had planned on inhabiting my 2021 until at least 2035. Sigh. Caca happened. I had to take on 2 additional years of term over what I had left on it, but at decent rate and I have recently cleared a few debts that have been nagging me for a while. Could have swung it on lesser term, but would take away my small 'cushion' I leave myself every month.
