My smoker and tastebuds will like this load........Some red maple buried at the bottom as well. I have to go back for rest tomorrow. Not sure what it is but I always seems to find more scores in the summer months, maybe it's just me.
Nice find there Chuck. Yeah Summer seems to be the season of you don't mind the heat. Folks don't want to mow around it I guess.
Love scoring cherry. Smells so good when burning. It’s second only to apple as my favorite wood to smoke meat with. And it’s not just you. There’s tons of scores right now but it’s too darn hot for me to bother.
There is storm damaged stuff laying around here. Have not yet driven past anything that's 'caught my fancy'. There's about 8 cord worth of sycamore just up the road still laying blown down. If the local free wood ads aren't increasing, they will over time.
Thanks all!! I was fortunate to have my co worker with me so it was pretty easy lifting. Now the hard part getting it out by myself, some of those rounds are beefy, should be fun today!!!
I'd walk past 100 sycamores to get one oak. I ain't getting it and so far neither has anyone else. Great big twin spar trees...huge. There's probably other good uses for it but far as I'm concerned it's for making pallets or cribbing.
Went back for the rest of the red maple yesterday morning and well the skies opened up on me but all good............. Running out of racks had to make due with some old termite ridden pallets (I need to invest in a bunch of plastic pallets) and landscape blocks to keep it off the ground. But for now the wood has a new home although I think I blocked the kids zip line path made it a bit more challenging.....LOL! I also caught this beauty in our yard going to town on a snack. From the pic you can tell she just caught wind of me staring at her. I slowly backed away and she continued on feeding. She's already eaten few of my tomato plants and pepper plants out front and she wipes out our hostas constantly they seem to be a deer favorite.
They keep eating my sunflowers. I tried using deer scram several times but a better name for it would be deer scam. They even ate the plants I dusted with it.
We used a version of these and they did work for a few weeks. Then went to electric fence, then to taller fence and then finally just gave up the garden. We had a fairly large and very productive garden….sure do miss it but finally had to admit defeat. We have 7-8 deer in the yard almost daily and do hunt our land but one can only eat so much venison Tried human hair, soap, hot pepper spray, everything in the book still threw in the towel:-(
Similar experience here. We don't see them as much as that, but we have 63 acres of woods with another 300 ish acres connected to it so there are plenty of deer here also. Every year the wife begs for a garden again, but the last few years have been 3 days of work and everything comes up real nice. Then a few days later, it's all gone... we've tried all the affordable stuff... 10' electrified chain link fence isn't in my budget. The groundhogs would probably go under it anyway... indoor hydroponics perhaps??? nah, grocery store is sounding better all the time.
