This past week with the cold temps really turned the leaves! I can honestly say that this is the only time there is a orange tree in the U.P.!!!
They are turning here also dave, took an hour drive north of here this morning and they are very bright right now No pictures as i forgot the camera in the carport?
Yep, they are starting to turn here too. No major vivid oranges yet, but the yellow's are coming out.
It has been so dry that we are getting brown edged dirty yellow colour in the poplars and maples. Alders never really turn nice colours, they just turn brown and fall off. Even the specialty trees planted in our town park are not that vivid of colour this year.
We are getting small spurts of color this way, maybe 10-15%. The dry weather we had in aug. seems to have lessened the color and made it more dull.
Yeah, I know. If I wasn't such an idiot when it comes to kumpewtors, I would have one of them there fancy schmancy avatars and post a buttload of pics too!
I'm about 2 hours north of Loon. Was up near Algonquin Provincial Park on Friday. We had a hard frost the night before that and I believe the foliage will be peaking here in the next week or so. Early,early.........early.
Colors are changing here too as every day we see more and more. Just yesterday I was commenting to my wife that if anyone wanted to find poison ivy, there is no problem now. It is bright red. I'll try to get some pictures.
We were actually close to the the Keweenaw when we were surprised at the colors and how they were in their prime in some (alot) areas. South of Houghton, (birthplace of professional hockey) to be exact. It seems that in the Keweenaw, it is a bit later than the surrounding area due to the lakes influence on temps. (Don't know if that is true, but that is what I think) That was Saturday. Today, I noticed it along the southern border of the U.P. Anyone who is looking to take a fall color tour up here, better get busy...the browns are starting to show up!
