mebbe I can bring those 100 bundles to you instead. We'll split the profit. Called him today and he still isn't ready. Didn't have time to assemble any more today.

I would definitely take 100 bundles! I'd even give you 60% of the take! I guess the good news is you can take take a break from bundle making and get after more scrounges.

 

Thank you sir! The biggest challenge is keeping the stand stocked, which leaves less time for production. I guess it's a good problem to have.

 

Customer picked up a bag (8" splits) and a loose stack (16" splits) of cherry this morning. Says he has a big smoke this weekend. Glad I could help.

 

Sales have been strong again this week at the roadside stand. Sales through 9 pm today were $530. 18 bundles and 7 small loose stacks were the most popular items.

While exploring the countryside around here, there are a lot of roadside stands with camp wood for sale. Not as big a stands as yours though. It looks more like they are just selling bundles. Average price seems to be $ 7.00 CAN

 

That's how most stands are and the price seems fair. I'm at $5 US, which is less that the box stores and gas stations but about the same as most stands I've seen in the area here.

 

Took advantage of cooler weather in the morning on Saturday to tackle a pretty large honey locust log. The Husky 576XP powered through it. I had to roll it to get all the way through. I have enough splits to fill half of an IBC tote.

That is a biggun. Will that go for general cordage? How long will you dry it? HL takes multiple years in my limited experience. Great firewood though.

Anything that isn't cherry, oak, hickory or sugar maple is potentially general cordage and/or bundle wood. I sort out the nicer splits for bundles as I'm splitting. They go in a different rack or tote. This tree has been dead and down for almost a year and stored on top of 3 pallets, well off the ground. Some of the outer layer was bone dry and went straight to the roadside stand. I imagine nothing will take longer than a month at the current temps.

 

Now for something completely different, we visited a cousin last week. He has an elk farm. You may know that elk aren't native to northern Indiana. He is an internationally known elk breeder and has 2 of the top elk in the nation. He gave us a tour to see the new babies. They are truly some majestic creatures.

Indeed they are. The most humbling thing was when they came to eat out of the back of the side-by-side we were sitting in. It was readily apparent that they could easily have taken us out if they were so inclined. I've seen elk in the wild but few people ever get this close, even in a zoo.

 

I did another 30 bundles yesterday. Ready when he is. Checked out my three local stations and one ready for a 30 bundle order this week. I may do a few more when I pulled his order. Had a guest when I was leaving. Wouldn't let me take her pic. Kinda funny as she kept going back and forth behind a tree and I did the same in the truck to get the pic.

 

Pretty cool with the elk. Great pics too.

Been meaning to ask Gary. How has the finger healed up? Fully healed? No issues with dexterity?

 

Thanks for asking Brad. Finger is the same as it has been for the last year. Fingernail is a bit wonky. Only bends about 15%. It's an inconvenience but I've learned how to work around it for the most part. Still tingles a bit but not enough to be really bothersome. If nothing else, it's a constant reminder to pay attention when operating equipment.

 

The A/S stopped working yesterday afternoon at the office. It's already 79 at my desk. I may as well go home and make firewood if I'm going to sweat.
