Yeah, I don't think ash is a southern species. But you should have an abundance of osage orange near you.
This one is for you guys that may not get much, if any Box Elder, but may come across it one day. This can be lurking under the bark. It's not all over the tree, but Box Elder seems to make clusters of them.
I never knew what an ash tree looked like until the EAB came through here. Only had a couple on our property and in a local we never walked or harvested from. If someone had asked I would have said they were Tulip.
