Doodle bug encountered her first skunk last night :picard: Thankfully more like some mist of the spray and not point blank load like all our older dogs used to get. She's good now but the nice GPS collar we bought was hit too....

Last month when I took Spot and Rainey in for their annual physicals and shots, they found Rainey had a cracked tooth in back with some inflammation around it. I looked at it myself and was thinking the poor kitty must be in pain.

Yesterday was the big day to take her into surgery. They take 1/2 the expected cost up front (and they had given me the worst case scenario if they had to do some jaw work) . I got a call around noon that she did well but they didn't have to do an extraction. I figured I'd get the details when I picked her up late afternoon.

After xray confirmation, they found that Rainey had a "tooth resorbtion" issue so they did a cleaning and "crown amputation" - I had never heard of the resorbion or crown amputation previously. This site states that 3 out of 4 cats over age 4 have tooth resorbtion, while other sites say 60% of those over 6 have this issue. That is interesting as I've never had a cat with tooth troubles until I got Rita from the rescue and they had to take out 3 or 4 teeth before I could bring her home (I've probably had around 15 cats, most which lived into their mid teens, in my lifetime).

If you want to get more technical, here is an interesting article.

Rainey is doing well and she has no meds to take. I also got back about 1/3 of the down payment I had paid, so this was pretty much a win all the way around.

This is a good reminder....I need to get our oldest cat in for a checkup. Been a few years. She is 8 now. This is her new favorite way to grab attention. She will roll around on her back for a bit then doze off for a few minutes.

What color is your hat? Apparently they are attracted to blue?…they seem to bother my black/dark dogs more.

Many hats, different colors. No blue, but red, green, tan and gray.

Had a couple of sneak peakers today, working in the new smoke house and dealing with crab. Super Max the farm dog and Friend.

Maggs the neighbor dog also made her daily visit to see how we were all doing.

This still without a doubt the best thread on this site.
