Trimmers - discussion/pics

Got a new bevel assembly coming for my 2012 Husky. Bearings were $8 each with another $12 shipping. Complete OEM assembly for $58 delivered. Will put the old one in the bone pile for later picking if needed. Still one good bearing and set of gears in there. Wouldn't replace only one bearing while apart so complete made sense.

 

Believe it or not, have been using a Worx battery trimmer for years, it's very lightweight. Does fine on grass. My brother got a Ryobi battery trimmer and has been bragging on it and I used it when I saw him and I had to admit I was impressed. So, having a bunch of Milwaukee tools, I bought their attachment since I have the polesaw and hedge trimmer. The Milwaukee seems even better. Plenty of power to whack about anything I would be doing. Am also going to try a blade on it for clearing saplings. I have a Husky 345FR 45-cc trimmer for brush cutting but it's needing repair. I bought the part long ago but it disappeared and I have yet to find it amongst all my crap. I also have a trimmer head for it but have never used it. It has bicycle handlebars and a harness. For yard trimming, I like the battery ones.

 

Supposedly the Milwaukee is commercial rated. My buddy likes his. He has the trimmer and pole saw attachment.

That area was a thicket 6 years ago. Couldn’t walk through it without getting tangled or snagged. Russian olive, grape vine, bittersweet and many more were out competing all the trees. Mostly just concentrating on a 10x10 area at a time really opened it up.

 

Since we are on the topic of trimmers, what everyone's favorite trimmer line ? I've been using the .095 Husqvarna X-Pro Trimmer line on my trimmer and seems to hold up pretty well. Thoughts on square vs round or are we are going down the Chevy vs Ford rabbit hole ?

I just took out my 555RXT and used it yesterday with the string trimmer head. I use it with -THIS- square 0.155" line. It's seems to work just fine for me. Takes out small saplings. I cleared a pretty large area...also got yelled at for taking out some black berry bushes.

Which Ryobi electric trimmer does he have? My old Ryobi gas trimmer has always been fussy to start, and not I can't get it to even run. For a weed Wacker, I think the electric battery powered ones will do the trick. If it runs out of juice, I'll just do something else until it's charged again.

I wore out a few of these on T35 heads using Echo's orange line at .105. Dropped to .095 and am getting less wear. Little grommets where the line exits the head.

 

I'll have to keep on eye on mine. I have a T55x head. I use larger 0.155" lines as well. I like the big stuff for the stuff I cut. The thinner stuff just won't last as long, however, I can put more of it in the spool.

I was sortof in disbelief when I first discovered the issue. My brain says mteal is harder than plastic, but sometimes I guess not. lol

 

I just looked up the part numbers for those grommets. Looks like the T25, 35 and 45 all use the same ones while the T55 uses different ones.

 

On a f350 4x4 I have seen the inner fender well rub thru a steel brake line

 

Out of curiosity, how many times do you fill the trimmer head with line a year ?

I’m still on the original grommets on my 20 year old Stihl trimmer. I’ve always run round .095 line though. I change mine out at least once a year. If I do change it out twice it will be at the end of the season.
