Regular FHC viewers know I was looking for one for some time. Finally decided I have enough saws and would only buy one if I got it cheap. Is $175 cheap enough? Homeowner bought to clean up after a storm so very low hours. Cheaper Stihl's were sold out when he bought it based on the story he told me. Dunno if he was trying to cut rocks based on the paint wear on the bar. Couple extra chains and Stihl filing guide thrown in for good measure. This was another case of timing is everything. Hour old listing when I found it and I'm seldom on the computer on a nice Saturday afternoon. I didn't think i'd get it, but the guy responded right away. 45 minute road trip one way in the rain this morning. Even if I didn't "need" it, for the price id've grabbed it anyhow. May give it a run tomorrow. Thinking I'm getting an "award" for this purchase.
My gosh, you suck! That ain't fair! If you find one of those at any price, it's rare but to find it for nothing is crazy! The extras mean you stole it even more! I don't think I have ever seen a 241 for sale locally in my searches and I've looked at countless saws.
I was shocked I got it that cheap. I see one maybe every six months give or take on FBM. Most knowledgeable sellers know what they're worth. Rare to see one with super low hours like this. Hoping the bar isn't bent. I didn't even low-ball him, just replied I'll take it and when can we meet up.
I have a Makita ea4300 saw that the bar did like that and I don't know or recall why or what I did to cause it. Love the Makita, it's great. In fact, now that I mention it, I bought it because a reputable chainsaw expert told me it is every bit the equivalent of a Stihl 241! Plus, it is Makita blue and I like the color, lol. I had to buy it from England, actually, to get the blue color and got a good price even with shipping, believe it or not. It starts so easy and purrs like a kitten. Yep, you been looking a long time, congrats! How old was the seller, Brad, just curious.
Bar wear like that tells me the previous owner cut with a dull chain. It overheated the rails and burned off the paint.
Congratulations on your buy er “steal”. I have found only one on FBMP in superb condition listed at $425. Hesitated one day and yup, you loose
This was one of those cases I would've dropped everything and go. I was waiting for the guy to say it was sold or if someone offered more. Luckily I asked what time worked and 930 today. He shortly changed the listing to sold and I kept my fingers crossed. I drove by the address twice as it was a storage unit building thinking I'm going to a residence. He hadn't mentioned that and I didn't have his number either.
He says he had never used a chain saw before and the three chains were duller than my love life. The Stihl filing guide was for 3/8 chain and this takes 3/8P...5/32 file. Fine by me as most of my cutting is with the bigger chain.
Even if you need to buy a bar you are still ahead! It’s great @buzzsawbrad found a deal. Good things come to those who wait. All the banter was getting old. I will say my buddy has a 241c he found in a field that had been run over. I fixed the broken recoil and he glued up the rear handle. I used it some on the last grapple load. Like most of the Stihls I have run it was ok but I don’t really see the hype! I also usually run a 70cc saw so there’s that.
I thought it was a 14" bar but turns out its a 16" (only two lengths you can get for this saw TTBOMK) I turned the oiler up. Gassed her up. 6-7 pulls, started and ran no problem. Sharpened the chain on it and it'll get put in wood tomorrow.
The 241 banter may be over, but there’s still the banter about only running Stihls and a deep-seated aversion to ported saws Speaking for myself, I won’t feed into it any more though.
There wouldn't have been any banter on my part had someone not bothered me weekly trying to buy my 241 for months on end. Congratulation on the saw buZZsaw BRAD
