Pretty big gum at my aunts house. Humidity here is a killer but got to work with my dad, best friend, and favorite uncle. Didn't take to long, it was wedged in a red oak pretty bad. All in all it's piled up and no one was hurt. 20240608_085951.jpg 20240608_085949.jpg

Nice job working with family. You're a brave man keeping that gum.

Okay let me ask a question because I don’t know
What is wrong with a gum tree
Would a gum tree be good for firewood

Gum either black or sweet is lower btu firewood, and its absolutely miserable stuff to split.

We did not keep it. Cut enough blocks off till the tractor could pull it down then cut it on about 10' lengths. All got piled up in the woods. It'll make good critter habitat!

Have you ever split any? I've only split a few pieces of black gum by hand and it was not fun. I've seen pics on here and its on my do not take list.

Yes. When I was young we lived in an old house and all it had was a fireplace. damm thing had 32" dog irons in it. We cut 36" wood. Burned anything we could get because most of the heat went up and out . I was 14 or 15 when dad I installed a insert and our whole world changed.
