No, not talking about the cigars.

I was talking to my neighbor last fall about firewood and how I hand split everything, but I have a pile of knotty, crooked or huge rounds that are about impossible with the maul. He told me I was crazy and he'll lend me his splitter.
Last week I texted him and asked if he still rents his splitter out, he said no, but he'll bring it down for nothing.
Finally got to use it last monday and today.

This was about half way through these poplar rounds. They had some size to them.

I had a bunch of knotty holly rounds. Talk about PITA to hand split.
Lost the shade and started to get a little, so I called it quits.

The stack is a mix of poplar, box elder, pine, holly, TOH, black cherry, and mystree wood. Its an ugly stack for sure, but it'll keep me warm early season. Looking at year of 25-26 to burn, but could go this year.

Found a little black and yellow gold too.

I cannot imagine hand splitting all my wood. Did that make you want one of your own?

Yeah. I've been wanting one for a little while. Just haven't pulled the trigger. After working this one I know I want at least a 4 way wedge and a log lift.
Im in the camp of buy once and cry once.:makeitrain"

    So I'll start saving.

With a backlog (no pun intended) like that I'd be wanting a hydro myself. Like Ive said in the past...if I hoarded wood just for my own use id never own a splitter, but once I started using one three years ago, I'd never go back.

I see a hydro in your future Biddleman

The straps holding firewood in your trailer, are those elastic, like a bungee?

Ok, I'm confused (even more than usual ;)) where is the engine on this machine?
I see the pump by the battery there...is the engine underneath? Hows that work?!

I think it is a vertical shaft motor, so either a belt or chain under the beam between the motor and pump? Just guessing. I'd like to see some more pics.

I always enjoyed splitting by hand until 40 years ago when I injured my low back. Now I love hydraulics.

Hmm...I bet you are right...if so, I don't think I've ever seen one with the engine on one side and pump on the other before...

Looks like the engine is on the other side of the frame....you can see the wire from the battery going over to it...

It does go vertical. But I have to get a couple milk crates and a cushion before I run it like that.:D

Interesting… I wonder if it’s a newer design than mine. Where the battery is on that flat plate. My oil tank sits there. Plus I think my engine is a 12.5 B&S engine…

Definitely first time I've seen a belt drive pump on a splitter. Interesting.

The nice thing about this design is that you disengage the belt in cold weather… start the engine and then re-engage the belt and get the hydraulic fluid pumping…

My neighbor has one, but I think the pump hangs down underneath...nice for cold weather starts, as Kevin mentioned

First for me too. I've always seen them as pump direct mounted to output shaft. That's even how my vertical Tecumseh engine MTD is.

Never seen a belt driven pump on a splitter before

Interesting design, I like the idea of it.
