Went up to the hunting camp last night to start taking care of a few things before November. Was coming home this afternoon and had to sit at a stop sign while 4 pick-up trucks with trailers went by. What do you think was on them? OK you guessed right; firewood. I caught up to the line and couldn't help taking a good close look. Looked like they were on there way home from a day of cutting. All 4 vehicles were loaded with rounds. I saw a lot of ash but there was also quite a bit of red oak.

Now I have to wonder; is that their firewood supply for this season? I'm inclined to believe it is. Boy is that oak gonna sizzle. :picard: Me thinks they need to join FHC. :D

I would guess that it most likely is. Quite a few people I know haven't even finished cutting this years wood yet let alone split it. One person I know only cuts what they need for the week on Saturday :hair:

I'm confused, aren't you supposed to cut your wood for winter in Sept. and October when it's cooler. Squirt gun with some kerosene and leave the door open for about 30 minutes and all is well.

They just put in an oils drip system around here where your used motor oil drips in on the wood the whole time you are burning it to make sure it stays on fire. That is how you do it...... :rofl: :thumbs:

Not sure if I am allowed to do this so if not mods please delete it and I won't be offended.

Yep one of my mechanics has a barrel stove kit with the like drop system from copper pipe and a 5 gallon bucket that is tapped with the 1/4" copper line in out and the bucket hanging from the ceiling with a petcoxk to control the flow of used oil onto the wood.

The best place to stick that oil drip is in your bunghole :picard:

I know a guy on the outskirts of town who has an OWB and does a similar thing with used oil.....only he actually filters it and sprays it into the OWB with a high pressure atomizer nozzle and, when the firebox is at gasification temps, actually produces a clean burn. But, as with some of the guys that use OWB's, he pretty much just uses green wood in 'round' form in that OWB.....matter of fact he's JUST NOW getting his wood for the winter. And you can't imagine how smoky the area around his house is on those cool, damp mornings.....

Bad idea if you ain't gonna season your wood properly. We preach the three year plan for a reason.....because it WORKS. As far as oil dripping onto the fire, it's giving ALL of us wood burners in general a BAD NAME.
