That’s a classic there!! I think narrow ones are useful; here’s why I don’t know about others driveways but mines 13’ wide.. most everyone drives in the same 2 tire tracks about 90% of time.. this causes a ridge in middle The edges get high because of weeds. ^~^~^ shape on drive sometimes it’s nice not to get crap from edges in driveway Also 4’ wide nice size for trails in woods
That's a nice find, Dave. One thing you might consider, add a couple braces from top link hook-up to the back of the blade at top.
I have some 1/4 x 2" flat bar, I'll weld them in. I was kinda looking at that but it's fairly beefy... I can tell you this, the welding on this thing is absolutley AWFUL! It looks like they threw these out the door. A Vocational school kid with a weeks worth welding could have done better. Maybe that's why they're no longer in business. Woods now owns all their rights on stuff. *EDIT*... You and I were thinking on the same wave lenght. When I brought it home I thought that also. This morning I went through my scrap pile and why I (never) throw out any steel. I found a 6ft piece of 3/16" x 1-1/2" angle. so I whipped up some braces this morning, These should beef it up good! I'll weld then in this afternoon.
Sounds like you have me beat by a year or two, I guess that I am the “Kid” here Just doesn’t Feel like it Doug.
For what it's worth, I started feeling like $#!T around 50. That's when the Arthritis was hitting in hard and I fractured my neck at 52 along with my disc surgeries, that was it... Now I just live with large quantities of Motrin and Beer The VA won't give me pain meds, I guess they don't want to help me feel better, but they'll pay for my rehab if I start using Heroin to easy my pain!!!
Might want to call a sandblasting place. Can be cheaper and better for your health than wheeling away at it.
That is a good idea, the closest place from me is about 60 miles away. I'll widdle away at it when we get a good breeze, which is a lot! I also have a 3M particulate mask. Little at a time...
I have 59 coming up in late August, sure wish I was even close to what I was at 30☹️ Thw Wife and I both had gastric surgery in 2016, I lost some muscle mass along with some “Excess Insulation “, but Covid in 2021, was what really affected me, I didn’t have very severe symptoms, I’ve had worse colds and flu, but I did notice a serious and ongoing loss of strength. I don’t doubt that age has played a role as well, but I now struggle with things that I wouldn’t have thought twice about, before Covid. We usedd to LIKE getting wood in the 36”+ range, get some Great large over night burn splits, handle fewer rounds, now I don’t much care for wood over 24”, and am Happy with smaller than that Doug
I know what you mean! I got Lymes, (Real Bad) in 2009 and have never felt right since!!! I've told a half dozen Doctors that and a few said it stays with you and others look at you like your full of $#!T. I've NEVER had joint ache issues until Lymes. Covid was a breeze for me, I know factual I had it once and the second time, I just kept Nyquil and Motrin on tap. Good to go! Now a day, I have to take more breaks then I used to and still try to lift stuff I shouldn't My wife gets sooooooooo PI$$ED at me....
So, I made some headway on the cleanup/welding and painting, Little at a time. I'd sand, wire then paint an area. Weather gonna get wet tomorrow so I didn't want to leave bare metal exposed. Got the tines/teeth done and luck the paint dried, some bird left his calling card! I had some other things to do today but, Oh well, She'll get over it...
