Has anyone tried the Egan straight shot muffler? Just curious on some feedback.

I have a ported 261c that I’d like to try it out on but wanted to see if anyone has added this muffler to an already ported saw and noticed any improvements

also curious on feedback on their air filter system

    thanks

I don't think the ms261 has a 2 piece muffler, which all the straight shot covers are designed to fit.

No experience with the Egan. Somebody made a comment at the GTG last weekend about it. The Egan is rigid and if it gets hit or dropped it can wreck the muffler flange. On a stock muffler the metal is somewhat soft and it will cave or bend when it takes a hit. The bark box and straight shot are stupid loud as well, some like that others not so much.

I believe huskihl has one on one of his saws.

Personally I’d get someone to modify a new cover for you with extra outlets on the side.

Didn’t you mod the muffler when the saw was ported? If not, should bump performance a tad. Sorry, no experience with that specific muff.

I completely agree with this statement didn’t catch it at first but most saws that are ported already have an open exhaust and if that’s the case any cover will be little to no use because even if it does gain it will be very little.

I put a straight shot muffler and an Egan air filter on my 500i last fall. It is much louder. I think it improved the power a bit. The saw never had much trouble in that department before. The more open exhaust should help the saw get rid of heat better. The air filter has made a tremendous difference. Even with an outerwears prefilter, the factory air filter would pack full of chips after a couple tanks of fuel. It was much worse when cutting dirty barked fir and larch. The oiled foam filter seals up well and can go longer between cleaning.

We had a bark box, or maybe a couple, at a gtg and they were stupid loud. Muffs were barely enough. There is a point of diminishing returns, and I think these are way past it.

I like the way huskihl does his muffler mods. Looks factory and is still reasonable sound wise.
I was near a straight shot and no way would I want to be by it for any length of time.

X3 Looks factory and is not friggin obnoxiously loud. Just enough to let you know you got a demon in your hands. I’m not a fan of noise.

I redid one of my own muffler mods because it was too loud. Bought a used can of ebay and put a smaller stinger in it.

I think the better question is why are you getting rid of a ported saw? I only have one ported so far, but for me it’s a “from my cold dead hands kind of thing”  Just curious:yes:
