First off thanks to Eric Wanderweg for the lead. He PMed me last night with a Craig's List post for some nice straight sugar maple. Contacted guy and was good to go for today. 20 minutes from home. Another hoarder was there before me otherwise idve had a heaping load. Other than the steep hillside it was worth the effort. Solid face cord plus for the score.
Happy to hear it panned out and that you were able to beat the rain too . Thunderstorms and steady rain rolling through up here right now.
Got sprinkled on briefly. Really cool guy. It was a loop street so no traffic either. Serious dark cloud cover to the West when I was coming home at 330. Great view on 91 North towards Sleeping Giant. Couple brief showers here only. Thanks again. Most of this will be great bundle wood fodder.
The guy said I could park perpendicular to the road to load. The other hoarder did but had a small truck from what I understood.
Those rounds will make some great splits. Was a beautiful day all day here. Currently 79 and sunny at 6:50.
Didnt feel like unloading wet wood yesterday so the load went to work with me today and I split some right off the truck later. Mound of bundle wood growing. All sugar maple and black birch. Some for general cordage. What's left I'll split later tomorrow.
Nice grab, Brad! Is sugar maple good firewood? I assume it is, since you went out of your way for it.
Excellent firewood. Dries in a year and better than oak IMO. Readily available in the state. But I'm picky as this was nice straight "Goldilocks" sized (its gets HEAVY fast). Made some nice splits for bundle wood. Finished splitting it yesterday. Forgot to take pics.
