No apts at the shop today so I skipped out and decided to fell a cherry tree. Neighbor of the mulberry score wants 2 taken down (other is BL), this is #1. I pounded wedges for a good 15/20 minutes. Went exactly where intended. Fully dressed and ready to buck. Tried to watch for visuals today but cloud cover timing stunk. My son is a bit more west of us and sent me these (2 through his welding hood). Anyway.. Packed it in the truck bed neatly because I needed the room. 3 full rows of rounds. Had to air up the bags. Looking at that base, I just couldn’t bring myself to buck it up. Land owner helped me load it with his Kubota. I’m going to mill it. Left hopeful I wouldn’t get unwanted attention from any LEO’s, and I didn’t. Got the entire tree in one load. Smelled fantastic!! Nice addition to the growing mountain of wood in my staging area.
That was a nice looking cherry. Good wotk. Cleared up for the eclipse in my neck of the woods. Couldn't get a decent pic through the welding mask I was using.
Nice haul of cherry. Pretty clear here for some welding helmet views. Did not completely cover here but very close, just a sliver left. Dropped 8 degrees in temperature.
Nice tree with no issues. Cant beat cutting the whole thing to your size. What was the DBH? How soon you milling it?
Nice Cherry and not hollow. Seems that most Cherries around here get hollow and full of big black ants when they get any size to them.
Thanks Brian. Ol Roscoe is doin’ well. I need to get one of those things made for trucks to protect the back seats so I can take him w/ me. Never would have guess Dobermans were so affectionate. Sometimes he just needs time w/ me and will crawl up on the couch between wife and I, kinda scootch’n her out of the way. It’s funny.
No ants! Sounds like it fought a bit, not wanting to go over. Frustrating when you do things right and still have to beat wedges to death. I have processed a few logs like that one. One of them had 'wavy' grain to it and made me pause at the splitter to admire and deglove to run my hand over.
Definitely! Loading the log with the help of the Kubota was no problem. Then I get it home and have no hydro help. Backed it up my little hill and used a digging iron to pry it out a bit. Once it touched ground a had wifey inch the truck forward as i pushed against the trailer front and it slid right out. Sure is nice having that plastic liner in there! Figured the hill would assist milling. Can’t wait to see it cut open.
