It appears that we're not even sure how big the sun really is. Edge of solar eclipse path of totality may slightly shift, experts warn
Considering the sun is approximately 93 million miles away and the moon is about 245,000 miles away, I don't think 600 yards is off by too much.
True but with the technology we supposedly have and as smart as what those scientists supposedly are.... i personally think they should know more hard facts like this rather than looking for how this planet was formed or where we came from or the other countless things they are trying to prove. Study what is rather than what could be or what we think was. Little things make big differences.
Nope, not going anywhere. Pretty close to the totality zone but not interested in joining the hordes heading north. There are really only two north-south routes up in this part of the state and they are only two-lane country highways. The infrastructure up here is going to be heavily overloaded already, no need to be a part of that. We will still have people without power on Monday (due to yesterday's storm) and there are already many gas stations that are either empty or can't pump due to power outages. It's bad enough up here during regular holiday tourist times but the local officials are expecting stupid numbers of people for the eclipse (even more now that the forecast for northern New England looks like one of the best spots in the country weather-wise). I've already seen plans for extra law enforcement, EMS, trauma teams, etc. (and I did hear a rumor about bringing the National Guard in, but I haven't seen anything official yet). One town already posted for the locals to only call 911 in a life-or-death situation. All other calls (including trespassing altercations with eclipse sightseers) are to go through the state police. Not taking anything away from those that want to enjoy it, but as someone living in a small-town path of the eclipse tourist madness, I'll be glad when it's over.
I am going to a cabin south of Linton, Indiana. 362 miles one way. Fingers crossed the clouds will cooperate.
In 2017 I was about 75 miles from the path of totality, it was cool to see but I regretted not going to see the totality (1% of the sun still produces a tremendous amount of light!). Taking the kids to see this one since we have friends about 150 miles away that are in the center of the totality.
Exactly...and this from the same people that claim to be able to fix "climate change", if only we send them more money...and do as they say...
I found it interesting as well that they weren’t sure of the diameter of the sun . Actually a quick google search explains exactly why that is .
We are in the 100% path. Sun is shining with a little bit of a fog/haze that should burn of here shortly. I live on a dead end road so traffic shouldn't be a problem.
All the advisories about hundreds of thousands coming to my area seem to have fizzled into nothing. This area is the longest darkness for the event, and the city was actually pretty quiet as locals stayed home, and turnout is low
