Been wanting to start scrounging up black locust since last month and am behind in doing such. I have several little honey holes that are hard to access in the warm weather due to weeds and overgrowth. Thanks to Eric Wanderweg for having me to cut my first load this season yesterday. Nice half cord load with some mulberry thrown in the mix. IMG_4537.JPG IMG_4536.JPG So FHC how much BL will i scrounge between now and April 15th? I have a goal in mind and wont reveal it until i meet it or the end of the deadline. Hopefully mother nature cooperates with my endeavor.

I selected 4-6 cords this time. Can't remember how much you got last time and after voting I wish I would have gone higher.
    Good luck Brad.

I did around seven cords last year. After some folks changed their vote last year i opted to have them not be able to change them this year.

I voted a bit lower than normal, guessing mud season will effect the tally.

That equipment is impressive! The booms on the cutters are long. I bet they have some reach. That mobile chipper with the big tires is a beast.

There’s a lot of good wood that’s just getting chipped. But I do get you need to work quickly and keep traffic flowing.

The state has been clearing trees along route 9 northbound in Cromwell too, at nighttime nonetheless. I come through there at about quarter to eleven every night and they have a large crew working with huge spotlights. The piles of logs stay there for less than 24 hours before they’re picked up. Quite the operation.

Yesterday's unplanned score (My First BL Score of 2024) of about a face cord brings the tally to 3/4 cord. Id like to cut some at one of my stashes before the su IMG_4595.JPG IMG_4596.JPG IMG_4598.JPG pposed snow storm on Sunday.

They made it to exit 63 SB in North Haven and chipped another one of my BL honey holes. Impressive pile opf full trees including some BL. I stopped and talked to the foreman. He said chips being burned at an energy plant. Hope they open the windows when they burn the BL chips.

Had a BL delivery far out of town for a regular. I discovered a little honey hole of clean up wood on the way there last year. 261 made the trip this time to cut on the way back. Lots of prickers and vines to machete through for access. Roughly a face cord cut today. IMG_4609.JPG IMG_4610.JPG Added to the barkless rounds. IMG_4611.JPG This brings the tally to well over a cord for the thread. He will be buying another cord so ill be headed that way again in the next month or two.

Very cool of you to stop and chat! Thanks for sharing that info. At least the wood is getting burned! Albeit, not in firewood form.

Cut a little at one of my honey holes yesterday. IMG_5123.JPG REALLY slacking on the BL harvest. With work, weather and other scores I haven't been able to cut much BL. Over a cord of rounds on hand to refill the rack. Cutting more today. Before and after round pile. IMG_5123.JPG IMG_5124.JPG IMG_5125.JPG

Awesome scores, that barkless is amazing. I hope they don't figure out that the chipped locust has great BTU value for their furnace and then they want to chip more!

Cut a load from my "manic Monday" score. Adds another half cord. IMG_5132.JPG IMG_5133.JPG IMG_5134.JPG Getting close to two cord for the thread.

Hit another honey hole today. Cut up this blowover. What bark was left came off easily. Other barkless around but smaller. IMG_5138.JPG IMG_5139.JPG IMG_5140.JPG Hit metal with the 201 while limbing...an old rusty chair playing hide and seek! Didn't even see it. IMG_5141.JPG IMG_5142.JPG Let it dry a bit in the sun and wind before loading. Started a third row of rounds. IMG_5143.JPG IMG_5144.JPG IMG_5145.JPG IMG_5149.JPG IMG_5150.JPG IMG_5151.JPG More there just few and far between and/or a lot of schlepping to retrieve it. Close to 2.5 cord so far.
