Saw one of my tree guys at lunch. He said he had some hickory. I said sure. Came home to this. Dead but still solid. Cut to length. Several days worth of fuel. :)

I'll work on that next. It took long enough to train his crew to cut to 16". :)

He lives 2 streets away so he isn't exactly going out of his way. But I was surprised by its not so big size. It is more like chipper fodder, gone in 7 seconds. They probably had to carry it out of a yard. I just need to have him keep up a steady pace.

Followed up with an easy pallet scrounge today. This morning I asked the guy building a house across from me if I could grab a few pallets. He said no problem. He'd be happy to deliver. 15 of them.
Now I need to get back on the tree guys case for more wood.

I wonder if they avoid chipping the hickory - being dead as well. probably does a number on the knives

I don't know about hickory but my log load guy called several years back saying that he had a black locust job and would I like the logs cause he hates chipping them. You probably know what I said.

The silica content in hickory would make it rough on a chipper, just see how long a chain lasts in it.
I'd imagine a dead locust is the same

Right where I want to be.
Thinking it would be worth a chain to get a nice load of either.

Having free rounds dropped at your place must be really cool. Seems it would be kind of like someone dropping a few dollar bills in your mailbox.

Made a 'drying table'. Got enough pallets , why not? 4x18', 1 split thick. Some of it was bone dry and other pieces feel like they are at 50%. I'll tent it with some 6mil clear and let what little sun that gets on this spot do its work.

It looks like good beer. I'm going to guess a double IPA.
