Joe P , I don't know why I never saw this tag. I sold 13.5 cord last winter/this fall (I know I said 15 previously, but I went back and calculated, and it's 13.5). However, I have not yet finished splitting/stacking this winter's haul yet, so I don't know the final number yet, but I'm thinking I should be back up to around 70 cord total by the time I'm done and I'm done burning for the season. Plus I recently expanded where I'm stacking it, so I think I'm going to be able to have close to 100 cord capacity when full. I didn't like constantly being on the heals of my dry stuff with the stuff I'm currently splitting/stacking. Think of my wood yard as a circular rotation, with a small gap in the circle. One end of the gap is my freshly split/stacked stuff, while the other end is my oldest seasoned stuff. I just increased that gap a little bit when I expended where I'm stacking. When I'm done stacking here soon, I have to lay things out and figure out how much more rubber roofing I'm going to need when at full capacity so I can get more from my source. As I'm going to need more for sure when I stack next winter's haul. I should be done splitting/stacking this winter's haul this weekend. So far I have 13.25 cord split/stacked out of it. Thinking I have another 1 - 1.5 left to go.
Update: Literally 45 splits left in the woodshed about 20 pieces of ash still on the covered porch. I'm not sure if I'll get through. It has been warm the last few days but see colder temps returning early next week. I have more wood to burn, that I had planned to burn this season, but trying not to use it.
Today, I put up a 6’6” bed load of mostly DDBL rounds (a few splits, too) that I recently traded a coworker my first Pit Boss for… no pic right now of that, but did find this DDR at the bottom of the 3 week-sitting stack on the grass- Could have been the baits I have around other stacks that got ‘im, or the recent presence of new neighborhood cats I see climbing around our stacks.
I'm just over 3 cords for the heating season. I have about 6 empty 8ft racks. I'm working to correct that situation. The empty racks do provide an opportunity to make any adjustments to the woodyard.
Update. Now that I am done with firewood until next winter, here's how my wood pile looks. I'll still be burning on/off for another month + though I'm sure. The video was done for another purpose, so my commentary may not make much sense at times, but the video gives a good visual.
Just scored two and a half loads of roadside White Ash. Love splitting this stuff and the heat it offers.
We have burned almost 5 cord this winter, half half a cord in the garage for cold mornings. We are both working from home and the stoves haven’t stopped burning this year. We typically burn close to 6 cord, and 1/2 a tank of oil, this year an 1/8 of a tank of oil. Went and bought some IBC totes as we had to move next year’s wood as it’s stacked right where the new carriage house is going. Had to move the wood before doing the earthwork. Picked up 18 to start with and need to go get another load, probably 28 to fill the trailer next trip.
paid $25/ea for them. There use to be a place that would give them away, but they stopped and hired a guy to pick them up and sell them off site.
