    I found this log in the transfer station. Is it some kind of pine? There is no pitch, it split easy.

    That bark looks a lot like some Kentucky coffee tree buZZsaw BRAD gave me a few months ago.

    That split looks softwoodish. I thought kentucky coffee tree wood was more dark brown. I could be wrong though.

    TTBOMK they don't grow wild around here and are only seen as yard plantings so it could be some sort of hybrid. I have seen pics of them with the dark heartwood.

    The Catalpa I’ve scrounged before had bark more like ash.

    sort of does look like it. Catalpa has a center pitch as does the split in question.
