Went to start the 261 yesterday and the pull rope came out very easily. Winds back up no problem.

Is this an easy fix? I'm not messing with that coil spring inside. Tried that before with bad results.:hair:

Take it off and check the plastic pawls.

Does it turn over? Did your decomp valve get depressed?

See if Fiskars will honor the recoil rope.

I'm guessing it's a pawl issue as well. Pull the recoil cover off the saw and look at/check 'em out. Make sure there's no debris in there keeping them from doing their job.

Sounds like prawls or little spring failed. Worst case is you can buy a complete side assembly. I had to on my 036. I went to start it without using the decompression and pulled the rope recoil assembly right through the side cover. The cover had cracks in it but I didn't expect a catastrophic failure that caused me to punch my self.

Dont even use the decomp on the 261. It worked fine on Saturday. Ill have to take the cover off. Seems like the pawls aren't engaging.

Maybe using the decomp would have prevented the pull start failure...

Not for nothing but he does have like 17 other Stihls he could run  Plus the Stihl dealer is right in town for him. I imagine it's tempting to just have them deal with it....
