I could really use a square filing session !
I tried making RS into square, was very happy that nobody was around because it was just embarrassing, and ended up throwing it out. No square grinder dudes around my parts either.
I couldn't get the corner correct, using a 6 sided square file wasn't working too well, so I went to a flat bastard ..... it was better, but I still had beaks and controlling that corner was still challenging. I know that starting with a square cut chain is best, and converting a round filed square tooth isn't the best way to learn. If I have to buy some RSLK - as a last resort I will, but I have sooooooo many RS chains, a "square 101" might be just whats needed !!

PS- whats the real difference between RS and RSK ? Is it anything other than the angles on the cutter ?

    Thanks !!
Been wondering where everyone has gone off to, shame how things go on and on in other forums, I like the willingness here to edit out the bunk !!

After reading your link, it looks like I need more upward pressure into the corner and more downward angle on the file. I am actually looking forward to trying again !!

Jon, welcome to the brotherhood! Glad to have you with us, being a new wood burner you'll save a TON of time and agony by hanging here, lots of longtime wood burners and firewood cutters here.

I think I saw you over on the firewood cutters page on FB........

IMHO, like a good working semi-chisel should, except the raker looks a little high for the cutter. Not too much hook, not too much forward lean, no excess gullet material, should be a long lasting work chain !!

I couldn't remember when I did the rakers so I thought I'd test it in some wood 1st.

That is allways the safest way to find a good raker height for each saw !
While this may sound crazy, I have chains set for each saw based on performance in the cut.

I have found that with .375 semi-chisel (I use RS), .025 just isn't enough to self feed well, especially with my ported saws

    Are you using a 7/32"? Or a 13/64" file?

Maybe I need to send a semi chisel to the chain race too. I've worked at making them almost as fast as ground square chain. :seasoned:
