Took the day off to finally use my splitter after the mods. Brought this chestnut oak home last week or so. Tree was cut down live. Round is about 21” long.

I regretted not noodling the rounds I brought home whole. Now I know why.

Well, according to my calculations, that round is approximately 2.15 cubic feet and white oak is 5573 lb. per cord, green, so that works out to right at 200 lb. Since it's had a chance to lose a few pounds of water in the past week, and it's not exactly 15" in diameter, so maybe 185 lb?

I hurt my back really bad about five or six years ago, picking up a red oak round that I thought weighed about half of what it actually did. Probably about the same size as that one. You don't like to hear a "POP" but that was felt and heard. Couldn't move for three days.

That sucks. Did you recover ok? I keep trying to “take it easy” on the old back. I didn’t dead lift any full rounds loading. I made make shift “steps” and tumbled them up and over the trailer sides.

Unloading was all but a dead lift though. When I went back for the second load a few days later, about the 4th piece I loaded I felt a strain and back was sore. Had to soldier through so I didn’t waste the trip.
