I see TONS of other bands represented by the youth on t shirts. Probably more nirvana, stones, tom petty, etc than Floyd, but I see those once in a while.

I've seen the Stones,Led Zeppelin, and many others.. but never Tom Petty

    I like Tom Petty..

But your "neighborhood" is likely a bit different than mine.

If you see people representing.. that's cool.

Unfortunately, it likely benefits the manufacturer's and lawyers, more than the bands will ever see.

    Soooo.. any "purists" amongst us??

[Edit]... No need to answer this in the open forum, as I do NOT wish to see this thread denigrated to flame wars.

But I am curious, and if enough interest is expressed, perhaps a PM thread.
    [/Edit]

By that I mean those that say.. for example.. any Floyd after the break, and minus Roger Waters isn't really Floyd.

Much like Van Halen minus Diamond Dave isn't really VH.. Although I'll admit I'm actually partial to Van Hagar vs VH with DD.

Black Sabbath without Ozzy.. ya can listen to it.. but it was never the same. Not bustin on Ronnie James Dio.. but.. It's not the same.. and everyone knows it.

I'm also not saying the music is bad.. I'm currently listening to Division Bell. Post Waters, but a great album.

Some have said that Gilmour shouldn't keep the PF name, but from what I've read, if it wasn't for DG's mother's money, the rest of us might never have heard "The Pink Floyd".. as they called it.

So.. I understand the purist side.. but I think that there's so much more involved that most of us don't realize.

I just want to enjoy the music..if it's bad.. they'll know soon enough.

With that.. I'll hop off my pedestal.

    Yep. I’m one.

Just spoke with my record store guy about possibly getting one of these.

    https://shop.pinkfloyd.com/product/...-clear-vinyl-collectors-edition-2024-remaster

He informed me this would be the 3rd time DSOTM was re-released in the year he’s been open.

He has one of these I considered but jeez, I already own how many different copies.

Roger was such a major part of the records I cherish. I can’t accept it’s Pink Floyd w/o him. There is only one song I can name w/o him that I like. Learning to Fly.

With Floyd it's an interesting case since they started out with Syd Barrett, DG creeping in once Syd had gotten too far gone to work with. It was a totally different sound with Syd being the main creative force in the early days. And yet, DG stepped up to the plate and the band exploded to soaring heights before the infighting (egos?) did them in. What is "pure" Floyd?

You are correct.. It is interesting..

But, I've never met a Floyd Fanatic that truly considers the original PF as the "definitive" PF.

I personally agree.. while, I'm sure they would have had a following.. I can't see the original PF with Syd Barret as becoming remotely as successful as the post-Syd version.

I also touched on the fact that The Pink Floyd may have become another failed band without the incorporation of DG (and financial assistance).

It is generally a line that is drawn between the Waters and Gilmour fans.

After Syd, the major force was Waters/Gilmour.

I tend to lean towards the Waters camp, as The Wall was nearly entirely his project, and I think unarguably the highest selling album for the band.

DSOTM probably #2.. but I have never looked up such numbers.

But I think one would find a very low percentage of "hoodie wearers" that could recognize Atom Heart Mother as being in the PF compendium.
Also one of the least listened to cd's that I own.

Ironically, I'm listening to Division Bell as I type this.

Agreed, psychedelic rock didn't have the same draw that progressive rock has. It kind of fizzled out with the dawn of the 70s. The counter-culture stuff ran its course and it was time for early metal and later on, early punk. I like most Floyd with DG - Atom Heart Mother, Dark Side of the Moon right on through to The Wall. AHM is probably one of my more liked albums, mostly because it hasn't been pounded to death on the radio like DSOTM has. The Syd stuff I have to be in the right mood for since some of it has an almost child-like quality to it, but I'm a fan nonetheless. I like Sabbath but if Heaven and Hell is playing on one station and Sweet Leaf is on another, I'll listen to Sweet Leaf. Same thing with most of Ozzy's solo work. Am I a purist? Sometimes. :)
