A great start! Could you suggest steel toe boots as an alternative to sneakers? Safely kept toes is a good thing often overlooked by many…
Especially at his age and level of knowledge about splitting. He just shows up sometimes with fridge cleanings from their house so I didn't know he was coming or I'd have told him to grab a pair of his step-dad's. We might have to head to town and find him a pair. Thanks for the reminder!
Was gonna mention potential for overswings/misses and leg/foot strikes but didn't want to be a 'ninny'. I don't wear anything protective, but I've been swinging a long time now. I have had close calls in the past but have never bled from my own maul.
Remind him to take his time...no deadlines here. Explain that it will get 'easier' once he finds his true swing.
Really great to see your young man want to help out and to do it the “old fashioned” way. Sounds like he has inherited a good work ethic.
Very cool. It's good he's so ambitious. Also good he has some guidance. I started splitting with a 2 sided axe just cause I had no idea what I was doing. It's very helpful to have some guidance.
That's on the agenda. Might have to take the saw out to the woods and find an oak butt cut from the loggers. He likes to do manual work sometimes, other times not so much. If I ask him for help he gladly gives it. Hopefully he listens but like any teen he needs to make a few mistakes and learn. Gotta say, he's not always happy at having grandma show him how.
