Well, you can't have my backhoe, still have work to do with it. Could spare a couple saws. That Buck is waiting for you anytime you want to go after it, I'm not going to take it unless its self-defense, I want 2 of its younger siblings/offspring. Guess I'll have to barter with Swags!

I posted that I'd be coming .................. bringing my Monster Maul to show you all how its done. Also suggested that we needed to ad the "Top Handle Take-Down Event" to the agenda. Especially now with the data above! Were going to have to settle this once and for all!

What I've determined is that engine design plays a much larger role in whether an engine seems powerful in the hands than HP ratings. I would also think that design determines where in the RPM range max torque occurs as well.

Smoke on this for a second.......the 076 has the highest exhaust port of any saw I've ever measured. It also makes max power at a very low RPM. For years I've heard guys say to raise the exhaust when porting a saw engine........but this 076 goes against that theory. Perhaps the 076 has huge transfer passages that flow lazily?????

What about this one? Two automobile engines make the same HP on an engine dyno, but one accelerates much faster than the other. Which one would be more fun to drive?

And another. Two sets of cylinder heads......one flows a huge amount of CFM. The other has a much higher flow velocity, but max flow is less. Which one will have the highest RPM at Max HP?

What I'm getting at is that the design of the engine......port layout......transfer tunnel size.....carb size........etc is what gives a certain saw that snappy acceleration and chain speed that makes it fun to run.

HP specs mean little to me.......

Daren had posted that he was having all kinds of problems with an older version of vBulletin on the vBulletin forum. I think they switched to the newer version of vBulletin a few weeks ago to get around the hacking leaks, and they were sorting it out and getting the site pasted back together when it started failing again with redirects to bogus sites. It still did not allow searches, even when logged onto the site. Word is that the backup files for the site were corrupted. The latest word was is they are moving the forum onto some other non-vBulletin forum SW. From the sounds of it, they will have to create the forum and them move all the archives under it. Some say that the users will all have to re-register at the site, if/when it comes back up again.

I have never registerd at AS but was talking to a co worker about it yesterday and could not bring it up so I know something took it down whether hacked or them. I told him it has been hacked for months. I am a member at forestry forum which has similar forums, but not the wealth of knowledge on AS and most of the main saw nuts are also on AS. May register on AS now? Never did before and once hacks started I stayed away.

I'm lovin' my 009L with a 12 in. bar. That thing really rips, great limbing saw. The handle is too far back for prolonged one handed use, but I'm not climbing with it anyway.

I was wondering the same thing. The year was 1961. At 22 lb., only Scotty would consider it a one-hander! rotflmao.gif

I think its more of a design of the time, and not so much what we consider a true top handle saw. Yes its top handle but not for climbing. It says for use in medium stands, climbing big timber or in milling and carpentry.

    Adjustable boiler too.

    Adjustable boiler? Interesting... ;)

Note the spring mounted AV. Maybe not a climbing saw in today's terms, but I know guys that climb with a 440.

I added the early top handle saws because they were the fore runners of modern top handle saws, and really heavy and huge for the power. The 07 is the same size as a 460/461. Imagine a 461T saw?
