My first 261 came with a 20" bar and i did bury it a few times without issue. I prefer it with a 16" bar which i run exclusively.

Do you have a Mtronic model now? Or if others do, and have done light mods like the muffler or air filter like above, will the Mtronic adjust to those mods easily?

What about heavier mods ( that I wouldn't do) like porting and such?

OP, if I'm threadjacking let me know and I'll make my own thread.

My current 261 is the mtronic model. All my saws are stock, except my 400 which came with a WCS "bark box" muffler which increases power. It also has a foam air filter vs. the OEM paper one. This increases air flow, thus power. Its my understanding an mtronic saw will self adjust to these mods.

None of mine are ported. Ive considered it, but i seldom run two tank fulls of mix through a saw in a cutting session. If i was really hard pressed for time or had to cut a ot of wood on a regular basis i would do it. Plus im cheap and cant fathom spending the $300-400 on a port job.

My 400c is ported by Kevin and it runs incredibly well while cutting like a light saber. It feels like it’s a few ticks away from being a full on race saw.

The 261cm seems like the next best step from my 180c, and the 400cm is like the next best step from the 261.

But you can fathom having 20 saws... quality over quantity. Sell the rarely or never used saws to fund porting for your most uses saws.

In fact, me getting saws ported has gotten we to start selling off the lesser used saws because I want to use the ported saws.

If it's still reliable, why wouldn't you hot rod one? Seems like a win/win.
