Stick & tin vs laminated… Each has their purposes… RV Construction: Stick and Tin vs Aluminum and Fiberglass
I've researched campers ad nauseam. I'm fully aware of the construction types. Its why a molded fiberglass hull is what we wanted. Castita, Helio, Snoozy II, Escape, Oliver to name a few. These aren't laminated fiberglass construction like the link references.
wasn’t directed to you. It was a post in general to the entire forum and visitors so they could all make their own informed decisions just as we both did.
Got ya. You were replying to me so I made the assumption it was. No worries. Our first camper was aluminum cage construction with aluminum sheets bonded to the frame, insulated in between the studs like a house, then finished inside with a a marine like carpet. Chase flyer by intech rv. Very tough little rig meant to be pulled off-road.
We got the camper moved to her new home Friday evening. Actually pulled it home and set it up in the dark... Godzilla handled it just fine, did put it in 4H when backing it in the yard, ground was a little soft and need tires on truck. Learned quite a few things, like why FarmerJ keeps those boards on the camper. I didn't pull camper onto them, had to use 12 ton jack to raise low side, put blocks and board under tire. Got it plugged in and heated. Gas furnace works great, got a small electric heater last night for it. The driveway turn around worked good and I was able to back it into the area where the shed will be. Glad we put up stakes and let the slides out. We have enough room for truck beside it too.
Figured out how to let the other bed out. Don't think will sleep too good. Maybe the grands will like it...lol...
Crazy question...we went to HF and got a set of the wheel levelers, but they're too long to go between the tandems. Do I need to just use 1 on the front tire or should I use 1 on each tire?
Are they the curved ones? You may need to do a little trim work or look for a different size. Maybe show us a picture..
I have the Anderson leveler blocks. You can’t beat them. Other than the 2x8 boards I’ll run the tires up onto. Camper leveler - Andersen Hitches
Cooked our 1st meal at the camper Sunday morning....in the yard... Goat Town State Park... Beautiful views... Griddle worked great We enjoyed those bacon, egg & cheese sammiches
We also use either the “Lego” type square interlocking blocks or the Andersen style.. If you can return the HF ones try the curved set..still may need to do a little trim but should be minimal..
We were able to take the other RV levelers back to HF. We ordered the Anderson brand curved levelers from Amazon and also got the big one that's used as a jack. Can with carry bag and rubber mats...
We called the shed company and asked about the installation options. Found out they can install on the retainer wall, after I described how we were building it. Finished last night. The wall is 18"x40'... Started Wednesday afternoon... 1st course is 6x6's, 4 10's Next course is 4x6's, 16's, used 6" screws to fasten Used 2 1/2 timbers on that run Next course was 6x6's again, used 8" screws for them I had broken both T30 bits we had, so took a break til the next day. Thursday afternoon, got some more bits and 6" screws, finished the top course of 4x6's. Then the real fun began...drilling a 1" hole, 18" thru the timbers... Got the stakes laid out. We used 7/8" rebar with 3/16" plates welded on... Thankful for recent rain, ground was softer, 2lb shop hammer got it done... After rods were driven in, we used 2 -14" screws on each 10' section. It's pretty straight, considering we used cull lumber. We will get some gravel to go under the shed. Glad we don't have to build the ground all the way up...
Thought it was mentioned at the first...after we got the camper and truck home, we decided we wanted a big carport/shed to store it under. Ordered a 25x40x14 carport. Picked the flatest part of our property.
Well is it a shed or carport? Lol. I remember the carport part from earlier. For some reason when you say shed i imagine an enclosed building with doors. Makes more sense it being a carport with the open ends of the retaining walls. You gonna fill inside of the walls with stone? How high up?
