Minneapolis says LumberStack, a home-based wood salvage and recycling business, is illegal. Owner Jeremy Marshik wants to change the law.
Not sure how I feel about this. Yes, recycling of materials is great. Wish it were easier for folks to do it. I reused a bunch of materials from my neighbors deck for my woodshed. But I am not sure I want a bunch of randoms stopping in to the neighborhood to buy some cheap 2x4s. On the other hand, the article points to the great wisdom of the city by saying you can run a nail salon out of your house....this still allows for randoms coming through. And there is literally a coffee shop across the street, so I am not sure he is really in a neighborhood/ subdivision in the sense that I am used to. So what is the issue of having a "retail" store, but not a service business out of your home? Just mixed feelings all around for me. Great idea for a business btw.
I wish for him all the luck. He seems to be doing a good thing and maybe even making a living. It is so easy for people to pick out any negatives but overlook the positives. Maybe envy and greed plays a part in this. I've never understood why so many people constantly try to run down a neighbor. Wouldn't it be better to help neighbors?
Nothing hurts mote than going to the local dump and seeing piles of very usable lumber and knowing you aren't allowed to take it!!
