Well the Eclipse is coming, and my location is the longest duration. I am hearing that masses of people will be flocking here. Outdoor venues are full up and they are looking for more spaces.

any eclipse fans here who plan to travel to experience it? The last one a few years ago was further south, so my wife and I went to the tree farm and floated on rafts with it passed.

I don’t understand the rave about it but we will be outside to be part.

We will be traveling to northern NH to observe it. Last total eclipse here was 1959 and the next will be long after I’m dead. Only get one chance to take in life’s experiences… it will be a huge bummer if it’s cloudy that day!

The full eclipse will be about an hour from here. I have been in it before. It gets dark like a sunset and then light again. Not as dark as the middle of the night.

I was in the longest duration zone when the last eclipse occured in 2017.
We were lucky to have zero cloud cover that day.
I got pretty darn dark for a few minutes but not totally dark.
Street lights came on, bugs stopped making noise and the horses headed to the barn.
    Then...... it got light again.

    Very neat to experience this!

I got to witness the 2017 eclipse, (hard to believe it’s been that long already)
Supposedly one of the absolute best places in the country to view it was about 35 miles south of where I live.
There was a lot of hype surrounding the whole thing. Estimates of the number of people coming to view it were crazy! In the hundreds of thousands! I don’t think those numbers were actually realized but there were a lot of people around. Motels and campgrounds were all full. Many people tried to capitalize on the event by opening up pastures for camping and viewing and brought in porta potties and food. Observing the humanity was almost as impressive as the eclipse itself.
I stayed at work and ran the gravel dredge as our regular operator went home to watch with his family.
We had intermittent thin clouds here so you could see it through the clouds and I had a pair of the special disposable glasses for the times between clouds.
It was a pretty cool thing to be able to see and if I was retired or didn’t have to work I could see myself taking a trip to see it again, maybe parking my camper in Sourwood driveway

Thanks for the heads up on this.

Looks like I'll leave work a half hour early to enjoy it.

Thanks for the offer but I can’t make the trip.
Traffic and turmoil was a bit over optimistic around here for the last one. They weren’t terribly wrong about it but didn’t quite live up to the hype. Kinda like when they forecast a snow apocalypse and you only get 8 inches!

I’m planning to travel a couple hours north, to a friend’s sheep pasture, to watch it. Have been reading about ND filters. The internet says to leave my dobsonian at home and focus on experiencing it rather than fiddling with technology.

A buddy and his wife rented a cabin south of Linton, Indiana for two nights. I have been invited but the cabin is small so I’m sleeping in my truck! Not sure if I’ll be able to see it through the clouds though. Spose to be 4 minutes and 4 seconds of totality. I went to the last one in So. Illinois and it was cool.

I am in the Augusta area of Maine. Here is a map of what we expect to have for viewing.

We could travel north but with a 98.4 percent of coverage, it doesn't seem to be worth while to get into that traffic. W anticipate thousands of travelers as the forecast for Monday is clear skies. I can sit in the yard and view it from the comforts of my home.
