Finally took out the Norway beech that has been clogging my roof gutters and lawn for so many years. Not a huge job but required some finesse because of a nearby house power line, fence and elevated deck. Also a concrete driveway and curbs. They rigged the branches and logs as they dropped them, all standard stuff but well done. The puckering, at least for me, was the topping and first few chunks coming down. The climber was so high that when he topped, he used a hand arbor saw instead of his chainsaw. The trunk could not have been more than 5" dia. at that point. It whipped around a bit and he actually lost a spike and had to grab tight. He had been having trouble spiking in because the bark was so hard. I gave him a tip. Not a huge amount but enough, I told him, to take he and his wife to a nice breakfast or buy a couple packs of fresh drawers. Also gave him and his ground man a Sasquatch cut out with the chainsaw and axe. They were tickled! I may trace out one or two of the pictures for future cut outs.
I did. Was going to give it to a friend but her situation changed so I will keep it. I will be using the 4"-6" limbs to grow Shiitake mushrooms as Beech is an excellent tree to use. Does anybody grow their own mushrooms for home use?
Sasquatch with saw and axe. Thought it was fitting. Owner (the shorter guy) wanted a picture for his website!
