Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

I am a man who enjoys the finer things in life. It is a stove with a distinct elegance and refinement.

But in all seriousness I can be kinda frugal on things that don’t matter. I wanted a nice stove that was form as well as function. Woodstock makes some great stoves. Thanks.

27/74 Shagbark Hickory and Elm

 

Back into the cold here in Northeast Pennsylvania. 28 at night. I am relegated to bringing in my emergency stash with a wheelbarrow that I have stacked about 25 feet from where I toss the splits into my indoor bin because my ATV is on the blink. Carburetor is spewing gas, and it won't idle. I am figuring the needle valve and/or float is varnished up. I tried running some fuel system cleaner through it, but no fix as of the day I did it. Maybe I will try it today after letting it soak in for a few days. I do have a brand new carb for it, just not in the mood to mess with it yet. Anyway, my emergency stash consists of oak, black locust, maple and ash. The stack next to it is all black birch.

 

28 after a week long break from firewood duty I’m back to burning white oak.

 

33, and still burning mostly oak. Not much variation going on.

 

25 with White Pine and Hard Maple in the Wood Gun. High of 32 predicted for today.

29/65 Coffee tastes too good so I haven't built a fire yet. It was supposed to snow last night but nothing showed up.....breaks my heart!

 

Well, it is still January. I'd rather have this type of winter over the traditional ones that I am used to.

I think the usage tally for this season is right around 2 cord now. Not bad for heating 2 levels (3400 sq ft) since Oct.

 

37/76 Letting the fire go out. It was 75 inside when I woke up, and it's supposed to hit mid 60's the next 3 days. So I will only have smaller overnight fires this week.

 

I had good coals in the stove this morning so I had a nice breakfast before reloading the stove. Red oak doing its thing.

 

2c/35f under clear skies which is crazy warm for this time of year. Im pretty sure we broke another record yesterday as I saw 9c/48f. I had a small fire last night but couldnt be bothered doing an overnight. Ill let the furnace pop on today and then will light the stove again tonight. We are very much in shoulder season burning patterns. Another few days of this silliness in store for us before things start sliding back to normal.

 

Just below freezing at the moment, which is insane for this time of year, and heading up to 4C/39F later. It's actually hard to run the stove in mild weather like this unless I short cycle with big kindling. Otherwise, you blow the roof off the shack with heat lol. Such a problem to have in January. Pine kindling and already 80 f inside.

For now anyways! Honestly, it's such a nice reprieve from the cold, even if by all standards this has been a mild winter so far

 

Been burning oak. Had a nice one last night that left the house at a comfy 72F when I left for work this morning. 29F overnight low temp. Really like the oak, especially as we were burning lighter stuff the first several moths of the burning season.

 

Woke up to the mid 20s, hovering around 34-35 now. Burning mixed loads of white pine and red oak.
