Seems like every storm we get now is the wet, cement snow. Seems the days of cold winters are gone here in New England. Lots of winter rains now. Ground hardly freezes, and if it does, its only a few inches of frost for a short while.

Sounding like "at elevation" is the only way to enjoy winter anymore. Last good winter here in sw Michigan was the first winter in this house. 13-14

Some years, like last last winter we've had several snow events that are very wet, heavy snows. Or, we get freezing rain on top of it, making a nice thick oatmeal type consistency. If freezing rain / sleet is forecast, we don't even try to do anything with the snow because we need the snow to soak up the moisture so we don't end up with a couple inches of ice on cleared surfaces. And the first couple of snows may happen while the ground is NOT frozen, so it starts melting but there is too much snow for it to continue melting.

There is nothing like not being able to throw the snow off the shovel to tweak your back / shoulders. Plus, my ramp would not only get snow, but drippage off the metal roof, so that snow was constantly a PITA - scoop a shovel load (of whatever size was appropriate), lift swing over the railing dump what would, clunk the shovel against the railing to get rid of most of the rest, repeat. Gets tiresome after the first 5', much less after 35'.

This is true. It was rare to have this problem when we lived further north.
