Once an old timer saw that my axe stuck in a split. He told me to hit the back of the axe head on the chop block and the split should split which it did. After a while of doing this and hitting the back of the axe head on a wedge the axe head cracked along it's side.My father told me don't hit the axe head like that which I ignored until it cracked. Then I knew what he meant.
I don't understand why they use cast for impact surfaces..... I broke my splitting axe the same way, except mine split right down the middle. The new one looks to be steel, but I'm not willing to find out how durable it is.
Sotz? Is that the old triangle shaped head with steel handle they called indestructible? In my younger years I snapped the head right off of one of those with the first swing. I missed the round with the head and overshot. Probably due to the extra weight pulling me forward. Copious amounts of beer and tequila didn’t help. That was my one swing with a Sotz.
I was on a mission and it pizzed me off! No mix to noodle, no way the Isocore was breaking them and i still had room in the PU. Plus i had already bucked them. No round left behind!
The boy learns from the best evidently . . . BTW, I took his isocore to TSC (with receipt) and walked out with a new one. Simple Fimple.
