When food starts becoming scarce, that is when the pecking order really kicks in. We are seeing it here a lot more since the big snow and cold set in.

That doesn't sound too bad except once you get to Greenville you take a chance of more weather problems.

Local businesses are racking up their losses from the recent storms and all the wind and flooding damage. To add insult to injury, the insurance companies are not covering losses related to the flooding. One man was trying to get 18 inches of water out of his restaurant, but the water kept coming in and rose up to 5 feet in a couple of hours. He said he was lucky to escape alive.
The local grocery store had several feet of water and lost everything. Now the question is if they will reopen or relocate. It was a huge store that supported many in the surrounding communities. Lots of damage to several communities up and down the river. I am glad I am up high on a hill. The drains I put in around the house have kept us dry.
Temp is better today. Now 35 F, I think I will try to get out this afternoon. It has been a week since I stepped outside. I have a few things waiting for me to get taken care of.

The grocery store and the big hardware store there both took a hit. It’s not commonplace to flood like that but it happens. I would never want to be near any river, especially the major rivers we have. I deal with Southport boats in gardiner and they are on the river too but a little higher. Used to be the A&P grocers warehouse. Was there a couple weeks ago and they said it was close to cresting over with the tide.

We're supposed to get freezing rain tonight, but I really think it is going to be mostly rain. I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow so it can do whatever it wants.

Supposed to have a warmup with rain every day this week. Hopefully I can get back in the shop and knock out some projects. I need to build one bed frame, 2 shelves, 1 giant (18"Dx36"Hx14'L) cabinet, and a reception desk.

It was a little interesting with the freezing rain this am. Tomorrow we might have more, especially in the AM for us.

Hopefully it's not as bad as this am

It turned into a long service call in Ravenna. I went to look at a walkover sprayer and ended up testing and diagnosing 30hp vac pump motor. I just walked in the door. Thankfully I didn’t end up going to spring lake. About 4.25 hours driving today. The roads are still good and the weather was actually better over that way than it is here but the morning will tell the tale I’m sure.

I know that area. Jerry's welding is on Ellis just west of Crockery Creek. Family friend owns that.

Im not 100% sure but I think that’s the building you can see on the north side of the road from Applegate dairy.

If you came from the east on Ellis and went down the hill, over the bridge, and back up, the welding shop is on the north side after cresting the hill. Big tan building.

While unfortunate, most insurances won't touch flooding unless you have a specific rider attached (costs more), and the contracts always states as much. That is where FEMA steps in and helps cover those losses - assuming there are enough total losses in that area for that type of action. But, at the same time, if you live near, or have a business near a body/course of water, one should be carrying that type of insurance.
