Came home from work to such small embers it wasn’t worth trying to get it going, so I did a full ash clean out. Sure is nice having a big ole pan! Then a relight with RO and some wax firestarter. 7:00 Rearranged the splits. 7:06 7:08 68 inside and hoping to raise that quickly.
Nothing special about that WeldrDave . Guys out here would drill a hole in the ice and drop in a line to catch some supper
This one was on Faceplant last Friday. I think there was something wrong with the thermometer because the weather station for the same location was saying-40. 40 is the same either scale. Don’t get me wrong it was dam chilly. We used to see those temps when I was a kid on the prairies. One time I had to pizz outside and had to get dad to get an axe and come chop me down. Now that’s cold. We are going to have some daytime highs above freezing this weekend. Back to burning crapwood hemlock.
What length of splits fit in there comfortably? Not sure if its just a play on the camera but it looks deep.
Lol agreed. I saw that and thought about fishing for perch. It is cool though. If it was my pond Id have a few beers and then would probably ice fish them barbless and then let the little gaffers go.
I'm well aware of that! Actually did it with Chrissy's dad on Lake Onalaska! Kept thinking, "What the hell am I doing here"?
7/67. Coals still burning hot. I guess I better get up though and feed it something. Gonna be a cold weekend here.
Sitting right at 30º out, waiting for the snow. Stove shut down till daylight, gotta clean it out. Room still 70º
-8F at 6am. Supposed to get to about 12F today, crowding 30F on Sunday. That’ll be nice, then warmer next week. Hackberry elm mulberry by the stove. Only about a dozen or so splits of mulberry left that I think is ready to burn. The rest is gonna have to wait until next year.
Outside temp dropped to 28º, getting snow now. I know most of you could care less and seen your share! Lit Grandma and got the fire going. it'll be 80º in here before long...
26/70. Snowing, calling for 3-5 ". Wife is off work, which means I'll go through some splits today. WeldrDave, I think you should do a polar plunge in your pond!
15 and windy here. Just loaded the boiler with some more oak and hickory. Supposed to get down below 0 the next couple nights again.
Some people say I'm a little strange, (I KNOW who's gonna chime in here)..... But I'm not completely nuts! I fell/slipped off the pier in Boston Harbor while in the USCG back in February 2003, in full uniform while connecting ships support lines, water was about 30º and it was about 12º outside. That was enough of a "Polar plunge" for me!
Started icing and snowing the 14th. Lows were in single digits for 3 days with windchills below zero. Low last night was 19*
It can fit 25”, but the RO I’ve been burning this season was cut for the prior wood stove that needed 18”. Next year I’ll be into wood cut at mostly 21” for it. 25/71 here at work. Waiting on one apt then I’m heading out. Really miss the wood heat and can never get warm enough. Window view of light powder coming down. Supposed to last all day and end up w 3-6”.
