Oh boy, we're gett'n snow! 28°, just threw a cherry chunk in the old girl. Warm and fuzzy 81° in the room.
It's been brutal out here in Wyoming. Snowed 6" overnight, it's 2:20pm and -10 out, going to -20 tonight. Ready for warmer weather.
Hovering about freezing here in the slushy south. Been burnin' cherry and maple all day since Friday, not gonna stop the rest of the week. Burning all day for over a week is a rarity here in SE TN, but I will take it! Gonna be single digits tomorrow!
Its nice being able to pack the stove and not worry about getting cooked out. A few days ago the wife threw some BL in when it was 34 outside and she got the house up to 90 LOL.
4/75 cherry doing the work now. Im going to have to refill the back woodrack as the fire isnt going out until maybe next Tuesday.
16/72 have some ash and maple choochin. Also now have light in the back yard again, made it up and down the ladder without a blow over.
Also put 2 wheelbarrow of wood in by the stove and scoped out my next 2 trees of cherry that I'm going for probably Sat. Not real big but the farmer wants them gone. If they don't fill the truck I have another spot to top off the load.
It's been cold. -4° this am. It got up to 2 degrees today. House hasn't been below 67° which it is now, but I had to reload the stove after bringing a jet sled full of wood from the shed. Almost all red oak brought up and into the house. There's a bit of snow, which makes things more difficult. I also had to saw down a dead box elder that was compromising the fence for my back yard to keep the pups in. I used the ms170 I won a couple years ago. That a handy saw to have. All good, but I had an ice mustache in minutes. I also cut all the branches off the Christmas tree from this year. I did that outside. Lol. -1° now. Red oak and a stick of ash in the quadrafire. Tomorrow looks like a repeat.
Similar to what we have forecast. Next week is supposed to get to 40° by the end of the week. Rain too next week. Weird crazy weather
Lol. My wife loads the stove up during the day. I separate the wood and she knows to not touch any of the splits on the right side of the stove. I'm surprised that she hasn't gotten the house super warm yet, and if she has, I don't think I'd hear about it unless I looked that the smart thermostat. Even then, I wouldn't say anything.
That’s the SD winter I remember. You haven’t lived until a -40 prairie wind freezes the tears on your face
Yes. This is what I did also. Maybe it is the soft wood the good Lord has given us that produces more ash. That fine ash can stuff a cat where it just isn't working as it should. The fireview and the absolute steel (don't now about the rest), make it easier to put on the welding gloves and pull the cat while coals are still pretty hot, but in the cold even gettiing the fire burned down to that level can be a problem for the folks in there 80's and 90's. It isn't like we and the older folk are ignorant on burning wood, but lessons learned 75 years ago are hard to shake. A good old stove with a large firebox is trustworthy. Not a bunch of gaskets means less drama. Kinda like having a good old truck without all the electronic stuff. The old stuff is just plain more reliable. Some people just don't get their firewood in until fall. Surgeries, family emergencies, ect ect. That is just the realistic way of life. All this stuff wouldn't be such an issue if one is retired and can tinker more often. I appreciate what you mentioned, and is also what I found. Different tools for different jobs. Thats all.
