Without scrounging something, or at least thinking about it LOL. I had to go to the pharmacy to get a prescription for my wife, so on the way back I swung by a local pond to check the status of the ice. While parked in the dirt turnaround, I look over the bank and spot some freshly dumped wood. I grabbed all the chunks of white oak  and one round of eastern red cedar, with next year’s kindling in mind for that. Maybe some here can relate to the never-ending quest for more ;)

Nice easy score! I have a bunch of cedar siding scraps that make great kindling.

A short distance from my house there’s a house being renovated. A crew came in and cut down several trees and stacked them at the street. The city is not going to pick up the big wood. At 35mph I can’t tell for sure what it is, but I suspect some of it to be big cherry. I need more wood like I need more taxes, but I drive by it frequently and it’s speaking to me. The voice is getting louder and I’ll have to stop for a closer look and some pictures. If it’s cherry I’ll need to grab a few pieces at least. :loco:

Like a therapist that actually tells you to listen to the voices in your head

For me, grabbing a few of the choice-est rounds can silence the siren’s call.

Haa, hardly seems worth it but it's not alot of work for that amount. People throw away the strangest things!

I’ve stopped to scrounge ONE round off the side of the road before (on more than one occasion) so I don’t worry too much about getting enough to be “worth it” It all adds up. Around here people like to save a few bucks and avoid the transfer station. There’s a few places around town I’ve identified as frequent illegal dump spots. If I’m lucky, I can score a little of this or that throughout the year just by random checkups.
