Carb limiters??

I don't understand how these plastic deals are actually supposed to work.
When I put on the new carb and I was adjusting it it seemed like it wasn't doing anything.
Today I took the carb off cut the wings off then, put the screwdriver in the end of the plastic thing, started turning it clockwise after about 10 turns I realized it was not turning the screws.
No wonder I couldn't adjust the saw
I twisted and pulled on the little plastic thing, It popped off then I see a metal screw head.
They are off now and it works fine but
I don't get it why was the plastic part not engaging with the metal screw part underneath?
When I looked close up inside the little plastic deal I didn't even see anything that would engage with the metal screw

 

What wings did you cut off?

Pic is very blurry on my phone but the wings on the red and white limiter screw covers should contact another point while trying to adjust the screw itself?

Why would anyone need to cut these wings off if all you have to do is pull the plastic thing out easily ?

 

Thanks. It appears that both the screw covers have two tabs or wings each. I believe the red cover rotates to a stopping point onto the white cover and vise versa going both clockwise and CW.

After you cut the wings off the "limiters" they are now nothing more than "screw covers".

 

Yeah I know but ,I was told by others I should cut the wings off so I could have full range of adjustment
It wasn't necessary to cut anything ,just pull em off and throw dumb a$$ things away

 

Full range so you can properly tune the carb outside of the factory limited specs?

Atleast a few threads on removing limiter caps on FHC

 

I pulled these off with my dang fingers, but maybe U can't do that until U cut the wings , cuz I had to turn n pull .

@clemsonfor I believe has the record time of yanking caps off. @MasterMech advised to use a Sheetrock screw to remove some caps in a thread somewhere? He also has a killer vid on 4 stroking a carb.

 

I know There are different kinds of limiter caps but these are the only ones I ever messed with, I am new to working on chainsaws.
I put a tac on it and tuned it to 12,300 after I put it back together

 

I'm also new to working on a saw. Plenty of knowledgable folks around here that are more than willing to learn us all a thing or two if we ask.

On some designs the limiters are what keeps the screws from moving freely making it impossible to stay in tune. I'm not sure on this design if you need them on or not.

to fetch some ibuprofen and that $20 well seasoned just dropped.

 

I have done some research on this in the past, the springs are what keeps the adjustment, apparently some do not have springs under the screws, but an old guru on as said he looked around his shop and didn't find any limiters on any of the saws and his customers had never complain about them going out of adjustment so, if there are no springs under the screws I would be leery otherwise not
