The numbered totes are for our restaurant customer, we have 8 totes in a rotation for them. That way we can make sure they are getting the driest wood. The ones we have lettered are the customers initials, when the tote is customized. TC is a customer that uses 14" splits. Another tote is BBQ oak split smaller than heating wood.
A decent week so far in Dixie. Ran some errands Monday morning, then used Ol'Faithful to deliver 2 loads to town... Took daughter to Dr appointment Tuesday morning while it was raining, got back in time to drive over to Macon and get new shoes for Godzilla...lol...same tires as the ones on the back of Ol'Faithful. We scored a nice pile of oak for a big top, all we had to do was trim some of it and load... Last load was mixed up...lol...the guy that gave us the oak is who sawed the pine from the Plantation job we did. He had 3 bad pines logs he wanted hauled off, so it went on the trailer too. We went by the builder supply store and they had a bundle of 11 - 6x6x10 culls...they sell it for 1/3 price...grabbed those to help build a retainer wall. A friend recommended us to a guy, he had a leaning pine between 2 of his rental properties ... While we had the tractor it town, hooked chain to it and slowly pulled it down. Limbs from the other tree guided it down. Termites had eaten it thru... Got to work of woodyard today...
Got 2 loads done Thursday... 1st load was some older logs from the Plantation job. It went to a deer camp for their burn barrel... 2nd load was oak from the campground site. Delivered it to a neighbor for next year.
Another update... Wood has still been leaving the yard... Repeat customer drove 45 miles to pick up a load. He got 18" dry hickory We've done some mixed loads, hickory cherry and oak Another customer ordered a load of oak, said it was ok to be just split from older logs As we were pulling out, he called and said he needed dry...he had gotten some oak that wouldn't burn from another guy...I told him he shouldn't be cheating on us...lol.. He took our load of oak and we then took him a load of dry cherry and pecan Split some nice white oak rounds Ol'Faithful is still getting it done. Pulled 3 loads to town one day... Godzilla wanted to be helpful too, so it pulled the trailer for a couple deliveries... The Honda SxS works great to haul wood to the house...brought this load down 1 night. Wood box was almost empty this morning, so loaded the Honda again... 10 buckets fit nicely. 3 buckets of chunks, 7 buckets of splits, mix of holly, ash, beech, elm with some small hickory and oak rounds. Good to go for awhile. A friend had a small oak for us to grab... Almost a 1/2 tote of rounds
Delivered the last of our dry oak today... Finished the load with enough dry cherry to make a 1/3 cord load Also made a 1/2 tote delivery...of 14" pretty green oakto town. They need to get on a different plan... 2 years ago they got 1 load, last year 2-3 loads, this year so far 4 1/2 loads. We may carry a couple empty totes to them to stack in, maybe they can get ahead.
Finished a tote of nice oak chunks Monday afternoon, Make some great stove stuffers on a cold night in a couple years.
You're still the hardest working guy in the firewood business! What size trailer are you using to haul the totes?
It's our 16' equipment trailer. Only flat bed we have for now. We had used my BIL small trailer, but it was hard to set a tote on, about 4' wide. We have a 5x8 that needs a little work (new tires, decking, reinforcement) that we will start using.
I figured an equipment trailer would be suitable for multiple totes. I have a 6'X10' like the trailer like you described (needs lots of work) and not sure that it would hold up to the weight of more than 1 tote at a time.
Depends on the frame, a 6x10 should hold 2 totes. Yes, the equipment trailer is 7K rated. We've delivered multiple totes on it before.
