Near the top of my list was either a 890 or 895 Mac - legendary 103cc gear drive beasts from the mid 60's-early 70's.Their biggest ''modern'' gear drive saw. Produced from January 1964 to February 1966,this 6.3 cubic inch/103cc 27.5 pound gear drive beast was the predecessor of the legendary 895,which was sold from August 1967 to December 1971.Both are same displacement,weight & will pull a 60" bar with 1/2" pitch chain all day long....Gear Drive saws are less RPM's than a direct drive model,but have much more torque & will not bog down in anything. All that overtime I was working the past month (Sunday 9/14 was the first day I had off in 20 days.) was the incentive I needed..... Back to a regular 40 hour week now finally. So I called Rich Dougan (Saw King,The Chainsaw Guy on You Tube) on Sunday afternoon & asked if he had an 890 or 895 that was a runner sitting around collecting cobwebs in his inventory....Yes he did,an 890 in fact. Said it was strong mechanically,piston/cylinder quite good,just needed a good cleaning & a repaint if I chose.' Sent me 3 pics this morning when I was at work,looks pretty good I'd say. $195 shipped to my front door. Runs strong,mechanically very good,just needs a good cleaning & new paint....Barn find,all that oil/grime & Douglas Fir sawdust/pitch acts as a preservative when sitting idle for the past several decades.....

On my front porch when I got home from work. Looks a bit rough & needs cleaned up,but has good compression & will be a nice project to start on in what little spare time I'll have soon. He also included a cap - Myrtle Creek Saw Shop ,solid back for cooler temps. I also found a reprint Illustrated Parts list on Ebay last week,$6.95 with free postage.
