First significant snowfall of the year. Man, I need a plow.

I ended up doing an agreement with the guy who owns the house next door allowing his tenant to use the parking spot for the winter. It does make snow clearing a little more challenging, but I'll manage for one season.

We're both a lot better today. Still a little bit of head congestion/ snot but overall much much better. My wife didn't get it as bad as I did, she just took ibuprofen and Sudafed. Me, I had to take Theraflu like twice a day. But I'm past that as of this am.

It's nice not having the feeling like your head's going to explode from the pressure.

Nice to see you back here as well!

So after Sabbath, we are sitting and watching a football game.

campinspecter - do you want to go down and light the boiler?
    Me - any kindling split?
    campinspecter - no
Me - oh good, I can play with the electric splitter then.

It is only about the third or fourth time I have had a chance to do this. I am not as fast or as good as campinspecter in filling the fire chamber but I got it done.

Good on you Woodwidow! For some reason I’m picturing campinspector eating fresh baked goods and relaxing.

to continue my lighting of the boiler story.
    An hour later:
campinspecter - it would be a good idea to go down and fill the fire box again.
me - really? I thought it would only take one load.
campinspecter - no, the storage tank temp was too load for only one load to bring it up where it should be.

So I went down and filled the half empty firebox. He was right. There wasn't enough wood in it to bring the top temp of the tank up.

An hour later, I go and ask him if we needed to put more firewood in the boiler.
We both go down and look at the storage tank temp. Hmmm says campinspecter. It needs 200,000 more btus. He does the math and determines we will need 28 lbs of wood added to the boiler.
So he weighs out the wood and we load the boiler again.
Impressed me no end as he was right AGAIN. When the burn finished, the tank temp was where it should be.

I am going to go and have a nice hot bath.

Boiler fed, dogs fed, caffeine in. Little snow on the ground (1-2”), looks like a little more today. Unfortunately it probably put my fire from last night right out. Don’t know if I’ll be able to get it going again this morning or not. Will go out and see if there is any hope, if not, oh well. If I could get it to go again I could burn a lot of stuff up today. It was a big fire last night. So maybe those coals will be hot enough when stirred up to get some stuff going. But I doubt it. Because that stuff has snow on it. Ugh. Maybe time to give it up. Was able to burn a lot of stuff up from noon until bedtime yesterday. Today will consist of relaxing, snow cleanup, watching some football, eating good food, and maybe getting that fire going.

Ugg, I fell down outside. Too bad our ground is so hard. It's SO scary on the way down, split second but feels longer. Black kneecap and elbow. Somehow I didn't spill most the chicken scratch and oyster shells. Still trembling from the adrenaline.
