I have a portable capstan winch and while double braided rope is recommended, would it work with the same size Kernmantle rope? It would mostly be used ti skid small logs and animals such as deer and elk so I don’t think it would be overloaded. Just winding if Kernmantle would work on the capstan? The only thing I've read and heard was about the friction from around the knob and the stretch on the rope was the two critical factors on the choice....
That’s what I read also. Double braided is recommended. Supposedly this rope is static rapelling rope that is low stretch with pretty good strength. Scored 800 feet of 1/2” Pelican Static Master rope for $275 so I should be able to get my money back out of it if it doesn’t work. Sells for about 3 to 4 times that so worth a try. Was hoping somebody had some experience with it to pass on. If I'm not mistaken, the retail price on double braided is cheaper per foot so would be the best to use according to the winch manufacturer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
