My place is surrounded by a grove of Eastern White Pine. Likely planted in the mid 30's when the house was built. They are huge and prone to blowing over occasionally. I completely understand your wood burning down to a very light, fine ash. Thats what my pine does as well. Very handy compared to hardwoods as far as ash management goes!

For sure the logical conclusion, except we likely can't make it happen- but it's going great even not packing it full :)

Woopsy, fogged the house up with paint burn smoke tonight. Not enough coals to light up a reload with door cracked, so he opened the door all the way. He forgot and I wasn't paying attention, then my lack of smell Covid nose made me think what that musty smell was... Well, we did break in fires but this should seal the deal lol.

    Hmph…covid nose huh?
Been smelling pipe tobacco everywhere I go occasionally for the last two years. No one smokes here and my parents house has never been smoked in.

Yep, I totally lost my sense of smell and taste Dec 2020 or 21 (?), Strong smells whether pleasant or bad all smelled like rotten chemicals. I have some sense of smell and taste back but not all. Last night when we fogged the house up it was like musty/mildew smell, then I looked up across the room. Maybe your smell is off too and it's something else, not pipe tobacco?

We’ve come to the conclusion that often it is imaginary. It’s odd though because at other times I’ll smell something for what it actually is, but my nose must get super sensitive because I’ll smell something before anyone else does. The rest of the time my nose doesn’t want to work.

    and

We're used to smoke dragons, huge fire boxes where we just scoot the ashes to the sides and keep burning. Stove was not going since before 5 am when I got up, I didn't even see a glowing coal. Now, 17 hours later he unlatched the ashpan hole. Emptied it twice and still left some "coals" in there. Guess we need to empty more often with this stove.

This time of year where the stove is running 24/, there's enough ash to empty the tray dairy. If I miss a day, it's not that big of a deal.
