Made a recycling run which means a stop at compost center next door. The usual pile of messy brush and lots of softwood all tangled up. These sugar maple and oak smalls made for easy pickens. One nice cedar log for the mill too boot.
Nice... ... My score at work got chipped... They were clearing off the small trees and brush to get the new place spiffed up and get a new fence in... Told the quoters to save anything around the 5" mark and I'd take it for firewood... Well 2 mulberrys, 1 decent elm, 1 hedge, and a few bradford pears all got chipped... Plus I had to go back yesterday morning and knock down about 3 stumps in direct line of the fence that he stumped like 4" tall... Nope that wouldn't have been good for a new fence... Still slightly pizzed about that...
That wouldve irk me too. My guess is they get requests like that often, get no shows/slim pickers, and they have a job to do.
Agreed with others, that STINKS and I would not be a happy camper either. Did you go back and place those stumps right back in the ground, using cement?
Great score Brad! Knowing the official “rules” there, someone took those literally when it came to the size (diameter) of those Maple and Oak logs. Nice job rescuing them from the chipper!
They were running the big tub grinder while i was there. Guy in the payloader was scooping bucket fulls and bringing them around back. These were in the front corner in a very recent drop off. He doesnt say anything when i take wood and has scooped stuff out for me. The boss who had been there quit. New guy running the grinder. They'll be shutting down in less than a month. Mebbe ill make another stop before then.
Those grinders are impressive. They chew up everything in short order. Good that you know the guy there! That has to help. I may head there next week; I have some brush I need to get rid of before they close.
Well i only have met the "kid" in the payloader a few times but he had no adversion to me taking wood even moving brush for me to scrounge. Ill have to meet the boss and get on his good side. They are on Winter hours btw. Open Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. They shut down Jan 13.
