Back when I was trapping pretty seriously I tried a trench set once. It is basically a furrow dug with your trapping shovel however long you want it, with a trap on each end. Mostly it’s just eye appeal to the critters. Mine was about 12-15 feet long. One day while running the trap line I had a coyote on one end and a skunk on the other. I always wondered which one got there first as I was sure neither one wanted to be that close to the other. Thanks for sharing the picture. Took me back down memory lane a bit
The only redeeming quality that I know of with coyotes is that they will kill and eat skunks. My theory is that the coyote was sneaking up on the skunk.. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it
I don't think I've ever known the reverse to happen. Unless teenage skunks have some kind of hazing ritual where they bet grubs on who can sneak up and spray a coyote. Would make for a good The Far Side cartoon....
