A couple pictures from wood hoarding adventures. My wife and neighbors think I’m nuts but sure am warm.

Nothing like getting paid to take down a tree, then getting paid again in a few years when you heat bill is 0

Welcome to the forum. What type of wood burning equipment are you using? (Same type of questions we ask in my motorcycle club, which are what is your name and what do you ride? lol) I have a Travis Industries fireplace insert and I'm working on the 3 year plan. I think I have achieved that goal by the way but still collecting and splitting wood. :)

Actually, using nothing yet . We have an insert in the fireplace that is not useable. Bought the house 9 years ago and the chimney liner is toast and pieces of the pipe are missing. Insert is still in good shape. Finally convinced the CEO of the house to put money away to fix it. On track to have it running next year. Just stacking wood for now!

That's a decent way to start. We had our insert re-installed properly, the chimney relined and the top six courses of block replaced. The previous owner installed the insert himself and did a hack job. Now it's safe and efficient. I think it was money well spent.

Our house has baseboard electric heat and that insert saves us around $200/mo during the coldest months. In addition, it keeps me out of my wife's hair

Been processing firewood for my great uncle for years. This was from a few years ago. He normally goes through about 4 cords a year in Northern MI. It feels great to do it for my own house and not just some for camp fires. Sounds crazy (well maybe not here), but for a guy with a desk job, doing this stuff is therapeutic. Nothing beats being in the woods working or a nice warm fire. 20201013_144009.jpg

Current personal stash here at the house. 20231221_103755.jpg 20231221_103807.jpg 20231221_103832.jpg Just split this today and should have it added tomorrow. 20231221_154752.jpg 20231221_154805.jpg This is all in addition to the wood I'm working on out at friends place. She sells it and we split the money 50/50, same agreement I had with her late husband who passed away this spring.

Stephiedoll I'm curious why you have the pallets up on blocks?

Airflow. Started doing it with the wooden pallets so they would last longer. Not saying it helps but can't hurt and I have the blocks laying around. It also gives wildlife and our cats a place to hang out if the weather gets bad.

Yeah the growth rings were very wide apart. I'm used to other hardwoods like oak and cherry, and when I cut into my first round I was amazed at how fast this thing grew.
