Antique plates ... on a Toyota 4Runner?!?

We have three drive ins within a 20 mile area here. One is walking distance from my office.

I distinctly remember seeing Herbie at the drive in growing up.

 

I remember drive in movie theaters, but once I got my drivers license I cannot remember seeing too many movies when I was there..................

 

My Yota will be eligible for Antique or Collector plates as we call them here in 3 years. It costs about $50 for the life of the vehicle and you do not need to buy the "tabs" for it every year anymore great deal
However the kicker is you are only suppose to drive the vehicle to shows, parades and the such, although people really do not abide by those rules and the cops dont really enforce it. I am just afraid if i am driving down the road with a load of wood I may get a ticket

Requirements
For vehicles:
To use Collector Vehicle plates, vehicles must be:

• More than 30 years old.
• Capable of operating on the highway.
• Owned and operated as collector vehicles.

For purchasing and renewing Collector Vehicle license plates
Collector Vehicle plates:

• May be assigned to currently registered passenger vehicles, motorcycles, or trucks.
• Are good for the life of vehicle (don’t need to be renewed annually).

For using Collector Vehicle plates

• Collector Vehicle license plates must be displayed on the rear of the vehicle. If you provide a set of restored plates, they may be displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle.
• You don’t need to display month/year tabs on Collector Vehicle plates.
• Vehicles with Collector Vehicle plates:
  • May be driven:
    • To and from auto shows, circuses, parades, displays, special excursions, and antique car club meetings.
    • For testing purposes.
    • For the pleasure of others without compensation.
  • May not be used for regular transportation in the manner of a fully licensed vehicle.

 

A friend of mine had one of those Deloreans in 1984. I never got a ride in it. Gull wing doors on this car was the eye catcher, the rest of the car sucked

 

I saw the same thing at the drive in. I think we are the same are BK.

 

Something to do with the defrost?

I courted Woodwidow by boat! There were no drive ins for boats. But I do remember an overnight grounding!


Strangely enough the boat came from a design in Popular Mechanics called the Playboy!
Still have that book and the plans!

 

Aww heck, I graduated in '85 . If I have a vehicle (or two) that qualify for cheaper classic plates, I'm all for that. Now.......

When they stamp "Classic" over my DL picture, I'll have a problem with that !

 

Nothing that bad here, but on my driver's license they list my hair color as BALD!

 

It's a night neither of us will ever forget. Someday I will have to relate the whole story. The short form is that I was late for school the first day of grade 12 and Woodwidow missed the entire day. She missed the school ferry and could not get to school. I had a boat and could get there but for some reason her dad would not let her come with me!

 

This started out as a thread about an antique Forerunner , now we're into ship wrecks!
So maybe this is a ship wrecked thread!

 

Our 1999 Toyota Tacoma has only 10 more years to be an antique or classic. Hard to believe 1999 was 15 years ago!!!

 

If it ain't allowed to haul wood I don't want them!

Seen Rock Around the Clock at the Community Hall while sitting on benches and with a intermission between every reel. I was maybe six years old. Then would sing along to the Pony Tails - Born Too Late, on late night radio. I was the youngest of seven and always wished I was older and then would then not be picked on. After dark was the only time that we could get AM radio reception .
